Paris 2014: BMW X6 World Premiere

COMMENTS

Making its world premiere together with the 2 Series Convertible is the all new 2015 BMW X6.

Check out our 2015 BMW X6 Official Thread for all X6 info and media.

Here is the press conference transcript from the reveal of the all new X6 at the 2014 Paris Auto Show.

Dr. Ian Robertson (HonDSc)
Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG,
Sales and Marketing BMW, Sales Channels BMW Group
World premiere BMW X6

Bonjour Mesdames et Messieurs! We have another exciting world premiere for you – the BMW X6. A true display of power and sporty dynamics – a top athlete in its class!

Please welcome on stage with me another exceptional athlete: Thierry Dusautoir, the captain of the French Rugby team.

The precision and performance demanded in the game of rugby are values which are also perfectly reflected in the BMW brand.

And we are proud to be the official partner of the French, English and South African national rugby union teams. And next year is a particularly special year for the sport.

Talk with Thierry Dusautoir.

The power, the pace and the precision of rugby – all of these traits are embodied in the new BMW X6. This new model has everything it takes to continue the success story of the first generation, with:
  • Higher performance, yet 22 percent lower fuel consumption.
  • More versatility and lots of space.
  • An even more luxurious interior.
  • State of the art technology.
  • And an even more striking design – with additional new packages such as “Design Pure Extravagance” and for the first time, the “M Sport” package.
Since its introduction in 2008, the BMW X6 has enjoyed phenomenal global success with around 260,000 units sold year-to-date. I firmly believe that this vehicle will continue that success story and further contribute to the tremendous global popularity of the BMW X family: Today, one in four BMW vehicles sold worldwide is an X model.

At BMW, our range of premium vehicles covers the entire spectrum of our customers’ needs. And the BMW brand stands for dynamics and sporting flair as much as for sustainability.

And all of our vehicles will always stand for “Le Plaisir de conduire”.

Appropriately, the X6 continues to be,, the most arrogant SUV on the market.

I've never been able to understand the market segment this car serves. Is the X6 supposed to be a "sporty" activity vehicle? Is it a smaller version of an X5…what the heck is it?

I think Jeremy Clarkson described the shape as resembling the hunched back of a dog doing it's business on your lawn. No disrespect intended to people that like this vehicle, I just thought it was a pretty funny description (accurate - too)

Love the car, looks like a no compromise luxury SUV.
I don't like the mold green color.

Hahaha yeah I see what you mean, I won't ever look at my larger dog in the same way again, maybe I'll call him X6 from now on.

Lovely interior and colour though

What I recall was nobody thought the X6 would be successful when it came out, but it has sold well enough to stay in the line and get a refresh. I actually find the X4 to be an attractive vehicle as my preference is for a smaller footprint.

Sorry, still don't like those two-tone seats - wonder if they are an option or standard fit?

That was a Chrysler Crossfire Coupe he was talking about.

The analogy still works for the X6 although to a significantly less degree.

This is one hugely awful colour. The red in the last two pictures is light years better.

Anyway ... Why buy this car? X5 serves as a decent enough suv, while the 5GT gives you the awkward hatchback-iness (should you need it). None gives you sporty feel that this car pretends to offer. Go for 5 series for a proper ride...

One vulgar and ostentatious machine, especially in bling bling colours. I bet the marketing people assessed the business case positively - yet are there so many of us who'd buy this frog irrespective of the pain it causes to the eyes?

Please, BMW, please...

If they could put the interior of an X6 inside of an X4, I'd be all over it. However, if you are used to driving an X5/6, the X4 is very old-style and not as comfy (comfort seats anyone?)

The two-tone comes with the two interior design packages with the Nappa leather. If you get a regular Dakota leather, its not two-tone.

Ummm...its smaller than an X5. And, well, you're on an X5/X6 forum, so ... you know.

I don't think anyone "needs" either an X5 or an X6. Most larger Ford SUVs would do the trick. Come to think of it, no one "needs" an F32 4series either. A Ford Fiesta would probably do the trick. So lets not throw any stones.

I don't understand the point of the iDrive screens for the back seat though. I don't even see an iDrive controller back there. I understand their purpose in an executive car like the 7 series, or hell, even the 5 series, but why this car? Is it supposed to be for kids to watch movies, which means the back screens will allow video in motion?

I'm also puzzled. You gotta admit that its way better than the old rear entertainment package. They had them installed in the demo that I looked at. However, I wasn't planning on getting the package so I didn't pay them much attention. I was more interested in what was going on in front of my face in the driver's seat. Thinking back, I should have asked the dudes what was up and played with them a little bit ('cuz they're pretty...)

Love the X6. Wife can't stand it.

As for the above, I once had a piece of sheep's milk Gorgonzola that was hiding in the corner of the fridge for a few months that had turned that color, but in matte.

You almost made me laugh while I was on the phone with a client. Just as I was reading your post my phone rang, and I completed your sentence right at the same time I said "Hello"..

Great design, I am sure there is a market for X6 especially the M that is coming Q1 2015

I also noticed that there are leg/thigh cushion on the console. I wish the X5 had that.

I love the X6M and want the smaller X4M when they make it, in Frozen Black for me or maybe Alpine White with black rims for the girlfriend.

But what was the marking team thinking 'metallic poop' , trendy like woman's nail polish. I do not like metallics paints anyway besides for silvers. Ya' they should have put the red one on the floor and stuck the brown crap up top so no one would see it. And I do not like the swooping line at the rear. The overall design needs to be tougher not feminized. The interior design is cool though.
