I think it’s pretty normal. My car has nappa leather package, and the front driver seat cracked as well.
But I belive if you do not get knife and wear regular clothes, then the leather will last forever. But you do need to oil it regularly.

Background: Recently purchased my vehicle via CPO from Perillo BMW. Did not notice the seat until I brought the vehicle home. Took it to my look dealer, but I was denied coverage for warranty replacement by BMWNA. I called Perillo and the sales manager stated that they would take care of having the leather corrected, but certainly not replaced. Your thoughts as to how to label leather issue???

Thanks for the pic! How many miles were on it when you purchased?

Do any of you have pictures of your issues prior to being replaced under warranty? Would greatly appreciate it.

Mine is fine 15 51k miles. What's your weight brother? Wide ass would always do this weird stuff. That's why no fat chicks get in my car. Warranty should cover it. I would go back and press that manager again.

6' at 205. So I'd like to think Im not a wide load. BMWNA denied it.

I have heard that M3/M4 seats would fit and have seen some for sale, but every time I ask them to verify, I never hear back from them.

Anybody who was able to get replaced under warranty did they replace just the bottom piece or the back too? I'm just wondering how it will match having a new bottom for drivers side when the back or passengers side is old.

They replaced only the bottom piece for me and it matched up fine. My interior is black though.

You do realize the part your butt and back touch are leather, the rest is synthetic, hence "Leather seating surfaces" distinction most cars have these days. My guess Bentley and a few others are 100% leather still.

Update: Just went to BMW's site, this is their distinction wording, "Selected material is on all seating surfaces; other components may be Leather or SensaTec", my guess is they define seating surfaces as the area's your body touches while in a normal, seated driving position.

So then they should replace all the seats, in order not to have a brand new seat and the rest worn out.

Which dealer in VA did you try to have them replace it?

I took mine to 1 dealer in Pittsburgh and they said it’s common considered normal wear and tear. Went to another dealer and they said they would submit to BMW and see what happens. They replaced the cover today.

Since you didn't use a question mark in your prior statement, it appeared that it was your opinion the whole seat should be replaced.

I just bought a 2016 CPO X5 and just discovered the exact same type of cracks you've all been describing on my cars driver-side seat. It's down on the left-hand side above the controls just as you have indicated.

My car has 49,000 miles and change it's going to hit the 50,000 mile mark very soon if I didn't get my car into the dealership before the manufacturer warranty expires would something like this still be covered under the CPO warranty or would I be out of luck and I need to take care of this immediately with the dealer in order to have any chance of them taking care of it under warranty??

I would go now. Bmw is probably far less likely to help under the cpo warranty.

I never got them replaced. Even at 30k miles they said it was normal wear and tear.

Took it in today... the car had a few other interior issues - a missing chrome trim piece in one of the AC vents and the parking brake button was cracked. Dealer will tell
Me next week what they will do about leather issue. I'm hoping if they won't replace the will at least offer to repair. They have a leather repair guy who is looking at it and some other defect on the door liner as welL

Keep your fingers crossed
