Me next week what they will do about leather issue. I'm hoping if they won't replace the will at least offer to repair. They have a leather repair guy who is looking at it and some other defect on the door liner as welL

Keep your fingers crossed
Can't really repair the crack.
It's a bit of work, but you could swap seat covers with the passenger side. Then the crack will be on inner side of passenger seat and won't be visible.

FWIW. On any seat that I have torn apart that was "leather" in a few different brands, and even katzkin brand seat upholstery.

The ONLY parts that are leather, are the seat surfaces, so, the place where your back rests, and where your butt sits. All of the other parts are vinyl. We are going to be taking our seat apart to repair a heating element so when I do that, I will try and see what the seats are made of.

The sides are vinyl. That's why they tear and separate. Which leather doesn't do. Leather will crack but it shouldn't delaminate.

Hi all, wanted to reply to this thread as I just had this same issue fixed under the factory warranty. The driver's side seat was cracked horribly from the previous owner. Dealer replaced both the leather and underlying cushioning to make it look brand new again.

Here are before and after pics:

FYI I also just got my X5 back from the dealership. They replaced the leather seat under warranty. Same issue as you. Cracking on the drivers seat just above the controls.

I wonder if the replacement covers are still vinyl on the side.

For some reason mine doesn't feel like it's vinyl…

Driver seat cracking - extended warranty

Hi Guys,

I started notice that left side of driver seat have started to crack for my 2014 X3. I've 7yr/100k km extended warranty on it.

Has anybody got their seat replaced under extended warranty? What are the chance the dealer will replace it for me? I'm taking it to dealership on Monday.

Thanks

Recently purchased a used 2016 x5 from a different dealer. When we got home we noticed that the driver seat leather was cracking next to control panel. Car is still under factory warranty, made appointment with BMW and they took care of it and replaced the leather. First time owning a BMW and can't say enough about our service advisor as he took care of us.

Mine is a 15 CPO and doing the same. Am I still able to claim this under CPO or no? My driver seat is doing it as well.

Depends on the dealer. Mine wouldn't touch it. They had it reconditioned for free and offered to "redye" which I declined at the retailers recommendation.

Said it's normal wear and tear. At 20k miles. I laughed at them. But they did replace both front door panels because of a small imperfection in the leather on the arm rest area which I was surprised about.

I took mine in a couple months back and the dealership did NOT cover under bumper to bumper warranty.

They said even with 26k miles it was still normal wear and tear which is simply not true. I called BMW NA about this issue and they told me that they rely on dealers 100% to diagnose for warranty work and if I wasn't satisfied with their diagnosis to drive to another BMW dealership.

The dealerships response was that they can't take a risk on jobs they don't think BMW will reimburse them for. Why so complicated?

I see a lot these. I’m wondering do you guys have regular seats or the comfort seats.

I have comfort seats every way I flex it the sides feel like real leather. They are wrinkled but not cracked.

I think it depends on the dealer and your service advisor. The dealer where I bought my CPO from said they can't do anything about it but this was after I had them fix issues with the car with them. I was just happy they fixed that. I went to another dealer closest to my home, they also said no. Then I started going to another dealer where I got my MPPK and MPE installed and they said sure without question. It just depends on your service advisor I guess.

I'd like to know who made the decision to save a dollar or two and putting vinyl on the side of the seat cushions.

I have just the regular seats. I believe the comfort seats aren't having this issue since they used leather instead of vinyl.
