Recommendations on downpipe for x5 5.0

I've been searching the forums and seem to have a hard time finding anyone who has installed down pipes on their X5 5.0 (F15) N63TU

I'm running BM3 stage 2 with the colder 97506 plugs and it's an absolute beast. I want to add the down pipes to take advantage of the Stage 2 maps and would love to hear from others who have added them.

Here are some of the ones I've found so far:
  • VRSF $449 - Look nice and clean - from Top gear solutions
  • Active Autowerke tuning $1299 - flex pipe - urotuning - quality unknown
  • Racing Dynamics $495 - urotuning - shiny (flange based)
  • Downpipe Decat RM motors $529 - ebay (from poland)
  • Bullet performance $1285 - Video with great sound (http://www.bulletperf.com/website_st...-downpipe.html)
  • Super sprint EU$1804 - Most expensive

There might be other ones but it's not the easiest thing to find. Anyone with experience on DP's for their 5.0 ? N63TU

I recall that I've sold a few set of Evolution Racewerks catless 3-4 years ago.

You're running the stage 2 map with no mods??? What benefit are you getting with the stage 2 over the stage 1 without any additional mods?

There was one guy who ran them and shortly after removed them and was selling the vehicle. I haven't seen many reports of people running them either, but I'd like to find out. I'm running BM3 Stage 1 stacked with JB4.

Would there be any gains on an n63t downpipe with just a piggyback and no tune? Will the CEL put the car into limp mode or restrict it at all?

Catless by itself will give you a good gain with stock ECU.
With piggyback is even better.

CEL because of rich reading from the secondary O2 sensor will not throw you into a limp mode.

Any dynos showing gains with a tune such as JB4 or BM3?

Thanks

Find me a guy locally that want to do catless with tune and let me borrow the car for dyno.
And find me a reputable place with AWD dyno.
Then I'll be more than happy to provide you with it.

Too bad I'm on the other coast haha. I'm currently running BMW Stage 1 stacked with JB4 at 21.5lbs and it's an animal. I have 3.5bar tmap sensors on the shelf. Debating doing that and downpipes, but I don't know how much she can take or if the downpipes are worth the smell. I've seen conflicting results...

Yes, I upgraded from the Stage 1 to Stage 2 and there was a noticeable increase in performance. Acceleration was smoother too. With the Stage 1 I felt some stumbling or rough spots under hard acceleration, especially at speeds about 70. With the Stage 2 mod, it went away completely. Plugs are showing a beautiful burn color now as well.

The intent was to buy the downpipe to get the full value out of the enhanced maps (I did consult with BM3 to make sure it was safe to do without the downpipe) but I was hoping for people to respond about which downpipes are worthwhile. It seems the thread has gone off on a tangent.

So you're running bm3 stage 2 with no additional mods?

Yes, that is correct and it runs awesome. I've got the F85 Air filters coming from FCP Euro and I'm in the market for the downpipe to release more power on the Stage 2 mod.

Just filters, do you need to modify the air box? What about the dinan cf intakes from the f85, does it fit in the F15?

X5M filters are a drop in for the 50i.

I contacted BM3 yesterday about running the stage 2 without down pipes and their response was "NO, you need down pipes".

I'm sure that's true to get the FULL gains from the stage 2. I asked them if there was a risk to upgrading to stage 2 before I install the downpipes. I was informed that while it's possible, it's unlikely to cause harm with the changes in that mapping.
I can tell you upgrading from Stage 1 to Stage 2 got rid of the stumbling, especially at high speed under WOT and my plugs are burning much nicer now. That said, I feel confident in the upgrade and looking forward to opening up more power once the downpipes are installed.
