Personally, I passed because it's priced like a clean CPO car, rather than one with that history and only 8 months of warranty left. It's also not as clean as the mileage would suggest (still has original tires which are dry rotted).

I was told by that dealer that a warranty could be added. I'd want to negotiate it into the purchase price, primarily to be assured the vehicle would qualify (not to mention, the new engine isn't even broken in yet).

I know the owner traded the car in on something else and the dealership has it in the shop for a while because the engine was back-ordered. Purely a guess, but I doubt the owner got much on trade-in with a blown motor where aftermarket parts were involved. What I wonder, is if BMW paid for the motor and thus the current dealership is into very cheap.
