You mean M cars, or "M" cars? Can't tell the difference anymore the lines have so blurred. This would make an excellent business case for how to take an exclusive brand with a cult following, dilute the hell out of it, deviate from what the brand once represented in the interest of broader appeal and profit and basically fuck it all up.

It seems like BMW will slap a special edition badge on any model just to try to stir up some excitement. Nothing special about this Black Fire Edition.

Just when I had a glimmer of renewed hope for bmw they go and do this crap.

Cheap marketing stunt, tacky and no substance , sounds like it came from scott.

When you see the word "black" on a mercedes it means something serious. On a bmw, well now it seems it's a joke. A good marker of the health of the performance divisions right now. But bmw couldn't even stick with being 99% cheesy, they had to go all the way to 100% and add the word fire

This is simply normal for high performances brakes. Repeated low temperature use make them squeal.

Find an empty country road, get up to 50mph, apply the brake firmly down to 5mph, get back to 50 and do that 7-8 times, then drive around braking the least you can for 5-10 minutes to let them cool, go back home, park the car until they are cold to the touch.

You can do that again when the sound come back in a few months/weeks.

A permanent fix would be to get organic brake pads, at the expense of the brake performance/heat resistance.

You can thank me later
Or he could Autocross it or track it each time the squeal comes back... Those activities also have the same effect with a lot more fun involved

In Peter Voice: You know what really grinds my gears? Ehh...BMW wants to sell yet another limited edition car with minimal to dismal qualitative improvements. What do those words on the teleprompter mean? Anyways, so ehh, eayah...they also say this -- the BMW M Performance Alcantara steering wheel with light-blue leather motorsport accent is also available as an option and at NO EXTRA CHARGE...

In Dennis Voice: Of course not BMW, don't be ridiculous, sure its...free?! Think of the MSRP, you haven't thought of the MSRP! YOU B*TCH!!

Except...when there's a special edition P-car (I am guessing you're referring to the new gold 911 Turbo S), there's performance upgrades in addition to the cosmetic touches.

This is like the "M2 Performance Edition", where they slapped M performance parts on the standard car and called it a day.

BMW trying to gain market share at the expense of losing core customer. Very questionable marketing tactics as of late.
They just lost me as a 4 time M owner to Ford in the '17 Shelby GT350.

I don't buy the whole performance car = breaks must be noisy thing. My previous x6m did none of that. Every time I pass by another performance car I don't expect nor do I constantly hear the noise. I think it's a poor excuse.

As for the new edition, I don't have a problem with it - let the market determine if there is demand for these cars. It's always good to have a choice. I am happy that Audi has significantly stepped up their game in the last ten years and there are models that I can see myself driving in the future, etc.
