Is it possible to change the 35i order to 50i
Thanks to xbimmers members insights I've decided to change my 35i order to 50i but today when I asked my sales rep he told me he would need to cancel the order and create a new order which would mean that I would loose my spot on production. I have a feeling since I've already held and played a lot with my order he just doesn't want to deal with it anymore. Has any one been able to change their order this way? The order was placed end November and I got an order number but the status shows order received and processing for the past 2 weeks.

You should make your mind and leave your order alone to begin with...I'm sure your SA is annoyed as hell.
And I think you are asking for too much to save your original spot after changing the engine. Production line has thousand of cars in production schedule and I'm sure it's not THAT easy to swap the queue. |

I did the same thing. It's a new order as engine allocations are different.

It can't be done, but changes that can be done aren't hard. It's a few key strokes on the computer, either BMW accepts the changes or not. Annoying for the salesman, maybe, if you do it a lot. But it's your money, spend it how you want. Salesmen doing a few minutes of extra work shouldn't be a deterrent for getting what you want on a special order, even if you're a bit wishy washy about what that is... Yes, trim changes are easy. I've been going back and forth on interior for a while and my CA kept making a big deal about how hard it was. She's been non-responsive for a while, and I emailed the New Sales Manager. He's been awesome and actually said "It takes me about 4 seconds to make a change. Change it as much as you like!" in an email to me today. *Engine* changes are more of a challenge (it's a different model technically, rather than different trim) |

I did but I did so within 3 days and before a production order was received.
Later I made more changes after two weeks in, at which SA said 50-50 whether it would be accepted, lucky it was accepted with confirmation. Yes one spends a lot of money on a new car and we may want to change our minds. Yes with a new model, all the fine details are unknown and sometimes info not fully communicated to buyers. This forum is an excellent exchange of info and hence we naturally want to change orders based upon new info. There is also a balance of the amount of changes that the SA should do. In theory they should do 100% in reality a more realistic amount is something reasonable. I have often treated my SA, delivery specialist, Sales manager, parts guy, after care sales lady with small gifts. They have treated me well on my subsequent purchase. Not withstanding that, when I spend $100k what's a couple hundred on small things. They work hard, its also Christmas time. So Merry Christmas to my new found friends. |
