iDrive Updates
I have searched this forum, but couldn't find the answer I'm looking for.
I now have a '14 50i, the iDrive software it has is:
I grabbed the latest off bmw.com/updates - UPD05074, formatted a USB stick with MS-DOS (FAT) on my Mac, and put it there. When I try to update, the vehicle says something like "The software is not suitable for this vehicle". I tried extracting the .bin file and putting all individual files there, but get the same message. I'm pretty sure I've seen someone post newer firmware versions here. The Update site says this new one is for vehicles "with production date from July 2012 to June 2015" - which mine would certainly be. Any ideas on what I should do differently? The only thing I can think of is to format the USB with NTFS on Windows - although the vehicle clearly reads from the USB stick as is. Any help would be appreciated! |

My car came with 001 and I upgraded via the download to 002. I believe 002 is the highest version available for download. You're already on 003 hence the upgrade attempts will fail.

I'm currently running 003.009.004 for both Media and Telephone. Is anything higher available?

There are higher version, but you will not find them on BMW.com/update.
You can get newest versions directly from dealer. I have found the update files within Psdzdata files, but not sure how to extract and compile so car could read via usb. They are also meant to update media and communication for newer phones and OS's. If your phone works, then you do not necessarily gain anything from updating. |

Does anyone know how we could get ahold of the higher level updates? I am currently at:
MN-003.003.001 TN-003.003.001 and I'm having some peculiarities with the connection between the phone and the car. I'd like to update. (what is happening is that the audio through either the bluetooth or a USB cable are pausing and then playing and then pausing and then playing in a toggling mode for 10-30 seconds every time I start new music from my phone.) |

Only way to update is to flash program headunit and associated dependent ECU's. You can do it yourself if you have resources or request dealership do it after they document issue. |
