Hello World, again! + re: Maintenance Refresh

Hi guys!

I'm glad to come back to Bimmerpost. It's been almost half a decade since I sold my previous X5M.

I recently purhcased my X6 50i!
It's not a M power beast but this guy is still a gas eater.

Does anyone know how much the maintenance refresh cost?

One of guys in BMW SF finance department told me that it will cost $1295 on the phone. I thought it's an insane number for transfer of the existing maintenance plan on the car. I will be receiving maintenance service for the remaining 2 years.

Does it depend on a model?

Do you know if it is priced based on its model?
I received another call to the same dealer but a different guy and was quoted with $700..
It seems BMW is really inconsistent on how they price on the refresh.

I would say maintenance for an M car is more expensive, but I have no clue....

Just haggle with them.
That number is not a fixed pre-set number from the corporate.
Besides, if they want your business, they should find it somewhere else.
Like, less profit on the car or less comission, etc.

I paid $700 for the transfer on an X5. It had 2 years of maintenance left.

I got a quote from a finance guy of the nearest located dealer. And he offered me 50 bucks lower.. I think I could go lower if I keep asking around but I might just go with it. However, it's just hard for me to understand why BMWUSA decided to sell out maintenance plans.. Honestly it was the one of biggest points that got me sold on BMW rather than MB.

Did you get the offer right away from the dealer? My number was more than $1200 and I had to hassle finance guys to get the similar number.

Hi,

Congrats on the purchase. I, too, have just returned to bimmerpost since the last time I traded in my 3er for a Honda SUV. I'm now driving a CPO 2015 X5 xDrive35i. Sorry if I missed it, but what year is your car? The reason I'm asking because I learned that MY15 (and possibly MY16) is the last year the no-cost maintenance still includes brakes, belts, among other things. Starting MY17 I believed the items covered were significantly reduced along with shorter coverage period. If the number that you were quoted for refreshing the maintenance plan in the next two years includes brakes, belts, etc. then I would say maybe worth it. If not, then I'd say either DIY oil change, cabin filter change, or have those done at a trusted indy would help you save more. In my case, since it's MY15 I bit the bullet and paid for the refresh since all of the above items were included, which made sense financially for me since my brakes are due pretty soon among oil changes in between. After that I will switch back to DIY like I did with my 3er before...Hope it helps! V/R, J.

Yes. That was the price since they brought it up. They had a paper with the car service history and the cost of extended warranty and maintenance refresh.

Hi bavautosport! Welcome back!!
Yeah it will work just like the factory maintenance plan which includes all items that you mentioned, I suppose.
I think my brakes are due soon as it makes some weird noise every time.
Mine is '16 From '17, they sell separate maintenance plan as you mentioned. But I didn't know I still have to pay for the maintenance transfer for those models prior to '17.
I guess I will stick with this one for a while and see if I want to go back to MB haha

I negotiated it as part of the deal.

Since the latest plans do not cover brakes anymore, I don't see this worth it at all. Or is this something else new I am not aware of that BMW is doing?

Mine is '16 so it should include the brake. I think they changed it for '17 and later models for the brake exclusion.
As far as I know, MB C class prepaid maintenance plan only costs less than $1500 for 4 years. I wonder how much BMW started to charge for their new plan.

Yeah, my '15 covers brakes. Just had my rear pads/rotors done. I was quoted for $947 to extend it another 15-20k miles. If I get new front brakes, that alone will covers its cost.

So you are saying I can negotiate the maintenance package? Up to/over 100k?

I am considering the maintenance contract in addition to a extended warranty for all the other issues.

Do you mind telling the miles at which you had the pads/rotors done?

In terms of price for maintenance through BMW, it may vary with model, year and mileage, but some of their prices are $1.150 K for 5th year or 75K then $2.295K for up to 6 years or 100K miles, etc.

The refresh plan I recently purchased, cost me $450 for 1 additional year this October. After that, it jumps to $1700 next year. Keep in mind, this is for a '15 F85 CPO & I'll be needing rotors & pads in around 3k mi. So for me, it was a no brainer. Keep shopping around, it varies from stealer to stealer.

If I recall it was 2500 for 2 extra years. I am not sure if the miles on the car has anything to do with the price. Mine had 18K.

Did you get the platinum extended warranty? For 2 yrs of the extended warranty, $2500 sounds like the best deal I've ever heard.

Hahaha "stealer to stealer."
Yeah, That totally makes sense. I am not sure if they are pricing the refresh according to the remaining years. Some people mentioned that the dealer cost for the refresh is only $300.
