Labor Hours for MPPK and MPE?
For those who had the M Performance Power Kit and M Performance exhaust installed, how many labor hours were you charged?
I'm getting a quote of 6 hours for both which sounds VERY unreasonable compared to the information guides out there. MPPK appears to be 0.25 hours plus coding MPE exhaust for a 335i/328 ranges from 0.5 to 1 hours (basically same install. cut the midpipe, remove old muffler. clamp in new muffer) |

Honestly for both the dealer should only do 1- 2max. I'd show them the factory install times.
They'll get their act together

Absolutely ridiculous to charge 6 hours of labor for such software installation. I had a Dinan tune done on my E90 M3 in the past and although it took a couple hours, the dealership I went to charges 1/2hr for labor only.

Total BS. The BMW's own guide says the install for the MPPK is less than an hour which is how long it took on my car. For the X5 the MPPK is just a simple software update unlike for the 3/4 series where it includes an intake and engine cover.
The MPE took my shop 1 hour and that's with me chatting with the mechanic.

They want to charge you for labor time while they waited for a file to download?

That does sound really high. I agree with above, 2.5 hours at most. They could do the exhaust while the file downloads, etc...

I was also told crazy install times. For MPPK I told them I'd pay them 50$ for the install. An ECU flash is NOt a 300$ install. I paid 300$ for MPE. 200$ for the exhaust and 100$ for the 50i rear valence and tip install.

I paid $174 in labor for the MPE and $30 for the MPPK.
Like someone noted above, you can do the two jobs simultaneously

It certainly can't be bigger than the .NET framework or Windows (etc, etc). Are they using a dial-up modem or something? Sheesh. Oh, this is it: They were downloading it to a thumb-drive and, on the first download, they found out it was too small because their itunes library was on it. They had to then drive to Fry's and get a new one. They bought one with Snoopy on it or something and, oh my, it wouldn't fit on that either! Another trip to Fry's for a USB 3.0 thumb drive and 30 mins later, downloaded! There was a lunch run in there too. That's how 5 hours gets eaten up on my weekend projects. (substitue Home Depot for Fry's ) |

I wanted to have it installed at the dealership I purchased the car from so I would have my mods on as soon as I got the car. I guess I'll find another service center. Alan, where did you have your muffler installed? |

At my buddy's shop here in Brooklyn. New Hope Auto. They have two locations. One right near 8th ave and one on Mcdonald ave under the F train.
Did you buy the X5 already? Alan

Oh I've been to New Hope many times based on your recommendation in the past.
Didn't know they had a shop on McDonald Ave. Yea. Put in the order today. So much time spent driving around and haggling..... Maybe I'll reach out to Rallye service for MPPK install. I assume they charged you a reasonable rate? |

It was all lumped into my deal so it's hard to tell exactly how much they charged me for labor alone.
I prefer the McDonald ave location since the mechanic Alex works there now. He's the only one that touches all of my cars and knows how anal I am. Alan |

Shot of my bill btw if anybody needs to have their dealers get their shit together
I had my side skirt decals and MPPK installed at the same time because their the only things I'd take to the dealer. Total 262 with taxes
