I believe a bootmod (software flash) actually remaps the software in the cars computer to maximize horsepower and torque. A racechip (piggyback) tricks the car into creating more boost. I have a racechip and it works great.
Imo a flash is better because it's more undetectable. With a piggyback, there's a part that has to be physically installed on the car which could cause issues with your warranty if you don't remove it before warranty work, but it depends the dealer. |

There was a user on here who reported that the dealer could detect that the ECU was flashed, so I’d be cautious if you are concerned about your warranty. The piggyback is much less likely to be detected if you remove it prior to any service at the dealer.

Both are detectable. They can see the elevated boost levels with a piggyback. It's unlikely that they would dig that deep. But obviously, a piggyback can be seen with the naked eye. A tune cannot.

I believe that this is incorrect. With Racechip, for example, it tricks the ECU to deliver more boost by reporting a lower boost than actual, but as far as the ECU is concerned, it is working within its correct settings. So logs should show than all was working according to the specifications, you just need to remove the "stuff" before going to the dealer. I am not an expert, but this is what i read.

I have not removed my RaceChip for any service or maintenance. I've gotten warranty work on the engine (seals, spark plugs, etc.); some dealers are ignorant and make up stuff to tell the customer. I'm pretty the burden of proof is up to the manufacturer to deny warranty work for a tune or chip.
