Brake replacement cost from Indy

So I was combing the forums and saw some prices for new brakes for front and back from stealerships for anywhere between 1800-2000$. My question is , I called a local shop in my area that works on BMW and I was quoted for brakes on my 2015 50i for 600$?!? Is that too cheap? Should I be hesitant.

My buddy has his done both front and rear for ~$1400 (a 35i) but hope this gives you a data point. Good luck!

make sure the Indy give you OEM parts, not junky low quality ones. Or you can buy the parts yourself and ask the Indy install them for you. You'll save about 40% of labor cost compared to dealers.

+1 on the make sure you use BMW parts. At least IMHO.

There may be other sites a little cheaper, but I use GetBMWParts.com for OEM parts. From what you stated, you have a 50I so as long as you don't have the MPBK kit, standard brakes - front/rear rotors, front/rear pads, and new sensors you are in for about $900 in parts OEM with shipping included. You could probably get aftermarket brands for about 1/2 to 2/3 of that cost and the typical labor in my experiences has been $150-300 to do the work.

Is your Indy just replacing the pads and sensors front and rear or alsodoing the rotors?

As a reference I just had my 35I brake system removed (calipers, brackets, rotors, pads, dust shield, etc) and had the MPBK kit installed and labor from my Indy that specializes in BMW was about $475 to do the swap. Definitely more involved job than just the rotor/pad swap.

OEM parts are about $550 (rotors, pads & sensors) for a 50i front & rear at bavauto. Add about 2-3 hours of labor at your Indy rates (or give yourmechanic.com a try).

Yeah, the Indy doesn't have to bare all the overheads for the showroom and the inventory of new cars.... like dealers so the billing hourly rate for labor is lower for Indy. Dealers can't survive selling new cars only.

You may not need the rotors replaced. The rotors can last longer than the pads especially if they don't warp. Maybe that's what their initial quote was for. And remember it's a quote. Not actually what they'll probably charge you. I would also not get oem pads if I was up to replace mine. So many other solid options for cheaper.

No as I said you may NOT need to replace them. Typical they can be turned if the need depending on thickness.

Most likely an indy will find the OE parts. For example instead of buying pads from BMW they would get them from Pagid, Jurid, etc. turns out there is a bit of markup when you put that BMW logo on there.

For example my recent purchase was oil filters. When you get say an oil filter made by Mahle, the BMW branded one costs $30 (even say Mahle on it) when the Mahle only branded exact same filter is only is like $18 on Amazon.

Your mechanic is a rip off. I moved to CA and the first thing I noticed is the shop labor is a rip off. The BMW dealer price was $270/hr. I guess if people are willing to pay...

However, I found this DIY shop that lets your rent lift, etc. perfect for me.

I had rear pads replaced at 55k miles. Rotors still have tons of life left.
