F15 50i Oil Leak - guesses
2014 115k miles on X5 50i. Increasing amoun of oil on the ground, cant see where it is coming from, other than that it is definitely right side and running down a larger area. Measuring oil level keeps showing max level, occasionally add after road trips.
My 15yr old son is wanting to take it over, just not sure I want to invest in it much more, any other 50i owners with similar leaks? Rear main seal, oil pan gasket and valve cover I guess are the common culprits…and all of those sound pricey… |

I'd guess oil pan gasket or VC because BMW.
If you're local to the area, I have a recommended euro shop that could suggest to take a look. They did my oil pan gasket + the oil pump tensioner fix for me. |

Most likely one of those you mentioned.
My 50i developed a slow oil leak/drip similar to what you describe, it ended up being the upper oil pan gasket. Very costly repair at the dealer (I was quoted $6000ish, would certainly be less at an Indy shop), though mine was leaking at just 34K miles, so BMW ended up doing a goodwill repair. Best to have it checked out and decide from there based on what it is/cost to fix. |

They quote list price times two, neglecting the fact that doing the other one is way easier once you have all stuff removed… I wonder how long do I have before it gets bad. And if Liquimoly motor saver is worth a damn, or a thicker oil would help? |
