Brake pad life
Hey all,
Just picked up a 2016 X5M with 29000km (18k Miles). I bought it out of province and it failed the out of province safety inspection as the front brake pads had less than 3mm of pad left. The front pads and rotors were change on warranty with the first owner at 4000km (2500 miles). So the pads only have 15,500 miles on them. Even for high performance brakes this seem like premature wear. The dealer denied warranty coverage on it. Is this premature?! |

The Jag/Land Rover dealer I bought the X5M from is going to pay for replacing the pads and rotors. I let them know I wasn't happy that I wasn't able to get the car safetied and they offered right away. So a shout out to Jaguar Land Rover of Richmond BC.

Too many variables here to give a meaningful response to your question.
I'm almost at 29K km as of today, and have a decent amount of pad left. Although I drive the car hard, most of my routes are on highways and rural roads, so there is a lot less braking than if I lived in the city. It would be nice to know the history of your vehicle. The rate of wear might be premature, or it might be normal... |

It wasn't "unsafe". Brakes worked fine. In order to pass the safety in my province they need more than 3mm of Brake pad left. These were right at 3mm. There is a sensor for pad wear and it is not showing the pads need to be replaced.

yup, as long it hasn't tripped the sensor, you are fine.
