Next color?
So, I was just at the dealer for a loose clamp somewhere on my exhaust and saw a Long Beach Blue M2. I've only seen one LBB X6M in the metal. The color looks sweet on the M2. I have the love/hate relationship with black. When I have it, I hate it. When I don't have it, I have black envy. My current X6M is black so I need to change colors this time around. I'm contemplating LBB when my lease is up in a few months. Not sure if the novelty will wear off and I'll get tired of it. Plus the X6M is a lot bigger than the M2, lots of blue. Also, am I way too old to be driving such a color? And then of course, does it scream pull me over the way red does? I know it's my choice but looking for opinions. Is a 50+ year old female going to look ridiculous in a LBB X6M? As it is, I get your husband lets you drive his car What do you guys think? Do I go the change of life route or stick with the safe DG?

I'd go with DG. LBB is probably cool for the first few months but Id think you'd get sick of looking at that color for 3 years. I know I'd prob like that color at first because it's different but I know I'd regret it after a few months, never mind 3 years.

Could be wrong, but more 'brilliant' colors typically require more hands on care to stay looking amazing. Ie, more washing, waxing, or ceramic coat. Otherwise... your love of it may fade if the paint isn't kept up...

Whatever color I do, I am seriously considering ceramic coat next time around. I feel like the quality of paint has changed. I have never gone through the auto car wash. Only hand wash and I have swirls like crazy. Drives me nuts.

When I do it myself - the wash, I use good products and microfiber. I'm not that much of a girl, I know not to use Dawn

A lot of odd comments in the above posts. Some of the posts imply that a clay bar is useful in getting rid of swirls, which is a bizarre idea. I don't like clay bars, BTW. They are not easy to use properly and are a great way of introducing damage to your clearcoat.
It's simple: swirls happen any time you touch the paint (that includes with a clay bar). With proper wash technique (2 bucket method) you can minimize the swirls introduced by washing, but there will always be some created. Drying will introduce the most damage, so why touch the paint at all? Blow dry the car and ideally rinse after washing, with deionized water. As the OP notes, black is a love/hate colour: looks great 1% of the time, magnifies swirls and any dirt the rest of the time! |

I think I get comments at least twice a day, where ever I go. I had the same reservations as you as I bought my X6M unseen. You will definitely get some attention, if that concerns you get another color. Picture describes a typical day |

Same - just passed 1 year with our LBB X5M and I still love the color. Get stopped all the time by people asking about the car. I'm with you, all of my other BMW's have been black, black sapphire, or mineral white...but I don't regret getting LBB at all. DG and black sapphire look really sharp as well, you can go red interior with either of those.
BTW, that LBB color changes based on lighting which is one of the things I like most about it. In direct sunlight it is a lighter brilliant blue and at night it shifts to a darker blue color. I would suggest blacking out the trim (roundels, side vents, grille, and badge) - all of it - as it really sets that color apart even from other LBB X5's you'll see on the road. Quote:

I think LBB looks better on the X6M than the X5M. Most of my cars have been dark blue or burgandy. This time I went with Mineral white with red interior (I wanted a change from my usual conservative self) Even though I like the mineral white, especially when it is clean, and the red interior I will not do that again. The full red leather seems to be a bit much sometimes, everybody seems to like it but they don't have to live it everyday. There aren't that many colors that are as visual as the LBB unless you pay extra for red. Be careful with your color choice you have to live with it. I don't think age has anything to do with it.

I was also thinking the DG with red but that’s alot of red. I think if they had the rear center console it would be ok but that full rear seat.... thanks for the feedback, everyone. I will black out the kidneys and side vents regardless of nect color choice.

The LBB is a great color and it won't get boring after a while. You will love it! DG is a safer color and it is nice, but it's nowhere near LBB in my opinion, especially when it's clean

You should take a look at the new M5 in light or dark blue. I saw one on the road last week and it looked amazing. It may be a good way for you to bridge to the next x6m as it won't probably come out until 2020.
