Does hard-wiring a RD void a BMW electronics warranty?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I had Cooper Electronics do a hard-wire install of my V1 in my 2012 X5 bought at Cooper BMW. I mentioned this to the SA before the install and I thought he said it would not void the warranty. I had no problem with the 2012 electronics.

My 2015 X5 has a lot more electronics than the 2012 and a Google search turned up a debate (on BMW forums) about ways in which BMW could deny electronic warranty work if a rd had been hard-wired.

I notice there are mixed reviews about location - fuse box, mirror-tap, power source from console - but I have not yet found a story of someone who was actually refused warranty work based on the hard-wired rd.

My 2015 X5 was bought at Cooper BMW and I plan to use Cooper Electronics later this week for a hard-wire install of my V1. I will call my SA on Monday but would like to hear from those who have insight on this issue.

@Xeno, well, if you are really paranoid and don't like a small argument, then you will most likely leave your car stock.
I, in the other hand, don't believe in SA threatening me on warranty got voided just because there was a wire got spliced.
Because if you can't splice a wire, then what, you can't even plug anything to your cigarette lighter but the cigarette lighter that was made by BMW itself?

True, my approach to the RD issue is extremely modest compared to the mods reported in this forum. I did not do the hard-wire install of the V1 until almost 3 years after purchase.

Unfortunately, a deer did so much damage to the 2012 that I traded for a 2015 and now I want the benefits of a hard-wire install. I use a BM on the rear-view mirror so I am going for the 'factory-install' look.

Yea, they shouldn't void any warranty until the additional product is proven to be the one that is causing the issue.
They do tend to scare people away by using "warranty" word so they can sell the BMW products or some other brands that they do carry themselves.

I posted this query on the ERF and two have drawn attention to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975.

Their interpretation is that "technically, you are allowed to modify your car in any way (including hard-installing something electrical) without your warranty being voided. Its law ... The warranty has to be honored, unless your modification caused the problem."

Anyone here see this differently?

BTW, a like thread on RDF says one should be safe using the fuse box. However, a "vampire tap" (like a mirror-tap) posters believe could be problematic.

Nope, this pretty well sums it up.

People need to read and comprehend what this legislation provides.
