How screwed am I? Service shows ok in iDrive, no manual in the car.

Most "events" logged will throw a CEL. Need to have the dealer or someone with the appropriate computer evaluate the cause.

Some CELs will disappear with a number of start/stop cycles.

Because it's your loaner you can't rule out the cause having existed before you were put in the vehicle.

Let us know the outcome.

That's what I'm thinking too brother- there's only 60 miles on the damn thing, and I've only driven it a total of 20 miles. I can't imagine anything going wrong during that time LOL.

What's peculiar is iDrive appears to be fine as well...

I'm going to try something simple like unscrewing the gas cap and screwing it back in again, to see if it's something that stupid- even though I haven't put any gas in the loaner yet.

This happened to a loaner (35d) I had for a month. The CEL would come on intermittently. I called service after the first incident and they told me that unless i was experiencing power reduction/loss, I should ignore it. I did. When I returned, the CEL was off. They also recommend the gas cap thing you are about to try.

Yeah...in all of the years I've had loaners, I've never had one shit out on me- nor did I ever invoke one.

Funny enough, mine is a 35d is well!

CEL doesn't show up on the iDrive. Only major codes do. If you have an ENET cable and the ESYS software and needed files, I can help clearing the code to see if it goes away and comes back. If it comes back, then there is something more serious wrong with their loaner.

Also, you're looking at the wrong menu. You need to go back one and check the last menu in Vehicle Info that says ALL SYSTEMS OK. If something is wrong with a Yellow or Red Triangle, it would show up there.

I wonder if some genius before you put some gas into the diesel without realizing.

Sounds good. If it was actually my car I would bother with all of that, but so far so good- and I'm probably not going to have it for much longer and I cannot imagine anything major going wrong it only 65 miles.

Yeah, as long as you are good with your dealer, it's fine. I just wanted to make sure they didn't try to screw you over for it. CELs are very random and a number of things can cause it.

Oh absolutely you were 100% right. They're really cool though, and I've been doing business with them for over five years. I appreciate that!

It's out of my way but looks like I'll be visiting Morristown for my next oil change due in 4k miles . I went to Bridgewater BMW , I called the day before and they put me in fine even though I didn't need loaner. Any special request for when taking in for service or requesting a loaner?

Hope that CEL is gone by now

Anyone is fine, but Mario is my favorite.

No luck, still there, and there is a rattle with acceleration- perhaps that is the culprit.

At least I finally got the sense to turn off the auto air circulation vent when running the washer fluid, so it doesn't smell like a nail salon in the cabin any longer...
