The ad tells us a lot:
• marketed towards female drivers in their 40s • Single surviving and staying-with-you grandma who who should be in the second row but has been socially and mental forgotten by the son, and is in the third row (there are three seats in the second row and kids could climb back to the 3rd much easier) • grandma introduces sexuality, recollection of a departed family member (the son's era now), and plays the typical in-law (correcting the daughter in her first line about best route) • she also looks at the wife when talking about leather, to see her reaction, and wife looks at the husband as if she recently wore or wanted to wear leather, as if grandma had walked in on their business • She also rubs it in that they are a boring family, by reminding them she is 80 and wants to hurry • woman knows the car, and how much it costs, and call tell you which "package" produced the nicer leather • inner suburban family • kids play their teen and pre-teen roles well. They should have had BMW wireless headphones for the rear entertainment option BMW is trying to sell this car to middle-aged women who want more kinky, leather sex, who have shielded kids, and a live-in in-law. <-- been trying to use this seesaw for ever. Certainly not an ultimate driving machine ad. |

Is it because she's old and don't have much time to live or something? I don't find that much funny. |

I also find it very "progressive" of our media these days that this mildly risqué ad was allowed on TV . Not too long ago the censors would have stopped it.
fyun89, all I can say is google leather+dominant and see what you get… Please do not do so if you are under age 18. ***I am not responsible for what that search returns, how you feel about it, nor what your co-workers, parents, or local authorities feel about it.*** If you really need more clarification, it is a sexual reference. Many people of many cultures find this humorous, when coming from such an elderly, assumed to be sweet little lady. Once again, I am simply translating, the views and opinions expressed herein do not necessarily state or reflect those of chrisny, and I shall assume no liability for any repercussions herein. Or something like that Last edited by chrisny; 02-12-2015 at 11:56 AM.. |

Anyway, chrisny and a few other explained it quite well. The whole commercial has very sexual connotation behind it. The way the grandmother speaks about "leather" and her late husband being a "dominant man" deals with sexual references. The mother in the front is looking at her husband to acknowledge her that this is HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE especially in front of the kids. Therefore, she keeps looking at him to kind of "tame" his mother and make her stop. I guess the other way to look at it is, if an F15 X5 can make an old lady talk/react this way, there must be something "special" about this vehicle. It's not the "norm" for the elderly to enjoy high speed or openly talk about sex. There is also the "irony" in that the 80 year old grandma is saying "pick up the pace" to make them go faster when most old people drive very slowly and don't like speed; when it comes to people being impatient, it's the younger generation, not the older generation. So, the F15 must really be something "different" and "unique" for an old woman to start acting that way. Of course, there are many different meanings and ways to look at this commercial, which everyone explained nicely from their understanding (I think this is what BMW was going after - to make everyone THINK). Now, you're THINKING about their F15 X5 (whether intrigued or disgusted by the old woman) = marketing success.

I am much happier not having a 3rd row, Do not want that many people in my X5 anyway. Hell most of the time I don't even want my kids anywhere near it. LOL

If they were making an F15 Spot talking about the premium leather...why wouldn't they use a car with the design package? That leather is leaps and bounds nicer than the grainy tought stuff they put in most of their cars is

I'm an adult, so I can live with sexual overtones. . It's PG13 anyway in this 50 shades era... It does make more sense that this is a series of ads and not just one |

LOL, I love these ads! If the cars seem to be losing their edge, at least the commercials have found it.

Hmmm, I think this would take much debate. Let us think about it for a moment. How many have been with BMW for a long while and have gotten rather complacent about them? Consider the experience when driving many other vehicles in the same price range and lower and what would your opinion be then. I know I have driven many in my years. And between in my military time and out of it, pretty much every manufacture there is. And by the time I came to own my first BMW I can say with out a doubt it is the best machine I have ever driven, and I am sure I have driven things others only dream about. So I say this, if you do not think it is still the ultimate driving machine, then go drive something else for a while and come back, see what you think then. What is everyone else opinion? I also think the commercials are funny, they are meant for an adult audience that is centered around a generation and class of people that are able to afford them.
