There is a small speaker attached to the exhaust system that resonates though it.
See this picture. The ball shaped thing is the speaker.

Yadda yadda... I don't really care about the technicalities in question. The M division has designed the engine, powertrain, suspension and steering for the M50d. Don't see a lot of other BMWs with an M on the engine. So I´m just saying, they left out the part that M has been known to be very good at. The exhaust notes.

I think a couple of peeps in this thread have misunderstood that this is about changing the sound of the exterior. Directly through the exhaust. Half of everyones BMW here already have fake sound inside the car so...
