Rear Bumper Protection
Is anyone using a rear bumper protector for parking on city streets?
I have been told that the strap type solutions like the Bumper Bully will not work because of the split rear hatch/tailgate. I am considering the Bumper Guard but I am waiting to hear back from them if they think it will fit correctly on a 2016 X5M (the site only lists up to 2012). Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks! |

I've read before that these types of solutions cause more damage to the paint than they provide in protection, if the car is even slightly dirty. The heavy rubber protection mechanism, coupled with the dirt on the car, create a sandpaper effect that damages the paint where these protectors rest on it. Just something to consider before slapping one of these on your new X5 M.

I would't put the guards. It just makes you look douche and the other drivers are more inclined to hit your car knowing it's protected.

I have been considering the ExecuHitch as an option and I could put a bumper bar into that though it is not the most convenient to take on and off when you don't want to detract from the original look.
I had used a Bumper Badger (similar to the first pic with straps) on my Alpine White 550 and several cars before that. It actually worked great. Most of the time the issue is the front license plate screws of the car parking behind you that uses the "bump" method of knowing when they are "close enough" Any damage the bumper guard could cause was far outweighed by the protection it provided. My main issue with the strap method is the split tailgate. As JNoSol mentioned, living in the city, street parking is inevitable, so I'd rather be prepared the best I can. Thanks! |

I bought this one for my car (x6m). the strap is super long and should work for x5m too. I don't recommend using it while driving since the strap could potentially scratch the paint. I always use it when parking on the street.

Thank you
Thank you! I'll order it now and give it a try. My other concern is that some of these use velcro and are supposed to stick to the carpet lining but one I tried did not stick at all. Do you have it stick out between the top and lower hatch or try to get in below the bottom hatch somehow (not sure if that's possible)

Hmm, ordered and it didnt work
I just tried to use it but because the velcro will not stick to the carpet, I don't know how to get it to stay. Any suggestions?

mine came with a sticky thing that you can attach to any plastic part of your trunk lid or frame. So I attached the velcro to that piece and so far it's been holding up just fine.
