How are the water pumps on these?

Coming from an 335xi N54, my water pump failed at 69K. This was to be expected because they were only lasting 65-75K for every owner.

How has the lifespan been for the water pump on the F15 X5 xdrive35i? I haven't seen many owners complaining of early failures on these forums.

Has anyone had to replace their water pump before 80,000 miles?

Good question. I believe we replaced 2 or 3 on my wife’s old 325i.

Never heard of anyone having to although not many above 80k miles I believe.

Bump... anyone able to chime in on waterpump reliability on F15s? I'm approaching 80K and am wondering if I should proactively replace it. Don't want to end up on the side of the road...

Bought this F15 8 months ago with 122k miles. 20k miles later...
Batt died, replaced $550. 3hrs later after sitting, "discharge when stopped" alert.
Diagnostic check came back water pump not turning off.
Thankfully smart with aftermarket warranty.
Only issue is dealership won't contact warranty company due to bad history of not receiving payment.
So now i have the headache of taking truck to another dealership or shop.

Some bad timing but battery and water pump at roughly 142K miles is to be expected.

Agreed, but smart thinking on warranty i purchased. Power train package covers water pump. All is well now that i got clarity on warranty company.

Which warranty company is this? Did the problem with them making payment get resolved?

Zurich is the actual company who backs the warranty, and the dealership accepts them. Carchex only sold me the warranty. I misunderstood this, but after 2 days of phone calls my brain started working.

Is it worth doing the water pump and tstat preventatively? I'm at 43k now and I know they like to go around the 50-60 mark.

My old e46 went through them every 60k like clockwork.

Probably. Mine just went out at 45k. CEL came on and the Indy shop code read that the thermostat needed to be replaced but they replaced that but not the water pump. 2 weeks later here we are and my engine fan keeps randomly turning on for a bit when the car is heating up. Probably need to change the water pump.

I'm at 106K miles and still running strong so not sure I'd replace it preventatively.

I'm thinking of doing mine and I haven't hit 60 yet. If I was commuting locally and had backup transportation I would probably just wait until it died. With the long distances I drive now and limited time at home, whatever a new one costs is pretty cheap insurance.

I've actually read good reviews about Carchex warranties. I have a Veritas warranty on my 2 series but have yet to need it.

I do a lot of miles too so same mindset here. Thinking of doing water pump/tstat/idler/belts all at once for peace of mind.
