Advice needed re Transfer Box
Hi All,
Just recently had my X5 F15 30d serviced at the local BMW dealer. No problems with the big service but it needed its MoT test also....it failed on a cut to one tyre...fair enough, but the dealer said it needed 4 new tyres and the circumference needed to match otherwise I would get transmission wind up. Reluctantly I shelled out for 4 new tyres ....since then I get awful jerkiness on acceleration or when under load....took it back complaining that it was smooth as silk before...they checked it out and tell me the transfer box is on its way out. Seems odd that all was OK before the new tyres. Any suggestions would be helpful....it has just 100k miles Thanks Steve |

Do a transfer case search on here. Tons of guys in the same boat as you that did a transfer case fluid change and recalibration and are smooth sailing now. They were also told TC needed to be replaced.

I would say double check the actual size they put on all four. Because dealers have never messed up. /s
As mentioned above, look into doing the TC oil change and adaptation reset. It has solved the issues for some. |

It's also worth double checking tire pressures. Inflation does affect rolling diameter, and the pressures may need to be adjusted if the size or load rating is different.
Used to get AWD torque bind on my Subaru if the pressures were too different between front and rear. Note however the X5 will inherently need more pressure in the rear and the AWD is likely programmed appropriately for the differential. |
