does F85 X6M need to change the petrol filter?

my 2015 X6m is 75000K now, the engine yellow light is always on. I suggest the dealer change the petrol filter for me, and they told me it is inside tank and not neccesary to change, is it true?

Yes it's in the tank, but it does not mean it shouldn't be changed.

So what was the error code that makes you think its the fuel filter?

That is not an error code. That's an error/warning indicator, that something needs your attention. It could be a million things that are triggering that light.

If you don't have a scanner Bimmerlink/Carly/ISTA/Foxwell/Any Other take the car to the dealer/Indy and get them to scan it and find the error code.

Either when you have an actual error message logged into the EC you or you can do it at some interval that seems to make sense maybe 100,000 miles as preventative maintenance.

The “yellow engine light” is the CEL/SES/MIL (check engine light/service engine soon/malfunction indicator light) it varies by manufacturer as to which name is used. But this warning means that a fault code has been set by something related to your car’s emissions system. If the light stays on consistently or intermittently…you can drive with caution. But if the light is flashing….you need to stop driving because you could cause damage (like a misfire which could damage the catalysts).

You can connect an OBD II scanner/reader to th OBD II port and pull the code to see what sensor set the fault code. There are generic OBD II scanners that will give a 5 digit DTC (diagnostic trouble code)….or a “P” code as its called by many. Once you have the P code, you can google to usually find the reason/solution

There are way too many sensors to guess which one it is…you can see a chart of the DTC codes below…it could be fuel/spark/air related:
