Software upgrade for 2016 X5

I'm not able to upgrade software and dealer says need to get later model. Is that true? Am I at end of life when it comes to iDrive?

What exactly are you trying to achieve with a software upgrade?

iDrive only, or complete with ECUs?

Usually, iDrive software upgrades are just for phone compatibility and to fix certain bugs. It is not going to change the look or layout of the iDrive.

Did anybody do any new software updates? I noticed when I got a newer iPhone on the new iOS . I browse songs but they don't play. I have to manually kick play on my iPhone as well as for HUD music selection. Even after making a phone call the music just pauses. Before it would automatically play again

How does one know if there is a new update? I’ve gone to the BMW site and entered my VIN, says none available but I’m not sure it’s accurate. Is there a site anywhere that lists the latest versions of iDrive software?

Download update files only to the official BMW site, all other sites may specify a new version but may not be suitable for your car, the consequences after installing such software can be sad

If BMWs own website says no update is available, then no update is available.

Sweet. Wasnt sure how it checked what version my car had installed (given theres no connectivity to the car....)

If there is a new version for your car, it will be displayed on the official website, regardless of whether it is installed on the car. I updated my multimedia a week ago to the latest version from the official site, when I now enter the vin code on the site, he writes that there is a new version, only it is already installed by me ..
