To continue this a bit. I was curious what kind of mileage I could get with E85. It’s easily accessible and anywhere from 35-50% cheaper in my area than 91oct. So with “normal ish” driving I get between 18.5-20 mpg with normal 91 octane. With e85 I’m 16.5-18. I did one tank where I drove aggressive. Mpg fell off the map down to like 8-10 with e85. So cost wise it’s probably worth it but I wouldn’t want to risk it doing it with every tank. Or if I know I’m going to be driving hard.

Note e85 on the pump says anywhere from 51-83% ethanol. I don’t care about this enough to actual check the ethanol percentage. So who knows how much is actually in there. I also usually do 2/3-3/4 tank e85. Rest 91.

My morning commute with no traffic. I'm lowered on H&R springs with 22s also. I've been getting about 1mpg more with the car being lowered I guess it reduces drag lol

how are you getting 37 out of an X5d?! I see sedans get that all the time, but I haven't seen any X5 get much over 32ish on a good day.

I live in San Diego and it is by no means flat.

Super boring to drive obviously. Few observations. All done in eco mode. The free/wheel coast works super well. I noticed it’s actually faster to use coast going downhill vs small throttle when the hill is moderately steep. Seems like the transmission drag actually prevents the car from speeding up down hill. Secondly cruise control is pretty bad for conserving mpg. Lastly, it feel likes bmw optimized the drag around 60-65 mph or 100kph would be my guess. I kept the speed in this range. Once you go over 70 the car really feels more aero draggy with constant throttle/flat road.
Same 2016 50i here. I do LA/Vegas a couple times a month and hypermiling on Eco I get about mid 22mpg like you when there's no wind. On the downhill coasting, if you brake, it will shift down and "charge", but if you hit the gas a little bit and it shifts up and RPMs go down under 1k, then you will have the natural downhill (gravity) coasting while gaining speed.
