How to upgrade idrive system

Hi, I'm currently driving a 2018 X5 as a loaner and noticed a much improved voice recognition system with much clearer telephone connection.

Is it possible to upgrade existing 2015 build idrive to a new one by just software upgrade or do I have to upgrade the whole head unit?
If replacing is the only option, how much is it installed if anyone knows?

Its hardware upgrade that cost around 2k At least.
