That’s why it needs calibration using Ista D.

Once it got low and in level with the drivers side I attached the sensor back to its original position, pump engaged and inflated BOTH sides equally to the normal level. So it looks like driver's side sensor just controls the valve for this side and the passenger's sensor controls both the valve and the pump. I'm not sure if it's designed like that and if my system operates correctly but I'm pretty sure both sensor are functional. Also both sensors are identical, same part number.
I wish somebody with air suspension could repeat my test to verify that driver's side sensor doesn't engage the pump...

All 4 wheels has level sensor for (even the front axles), reasons why it only works on passenger side is probally uses one sensor to detect level. The air suspension its just for level purpose and nothing else (not for comfort or performance gains)
I may need to try this as I've lost all air just in my driver side as well when I had the car jacked at the front for two days.

Just to confirm I'm assuming you simply unbolted the bottom bolt of the sensor arm and pulled the arm all the way down to make the car think it was too high and held it there till it totally deflated and then simply reattached the bolt and they both reinflated?

Was the car running? Did you have the wheel on or off? I'm a bigger guy so I don't have a ton of room under there as it is. I won't be able to fit if the back end is fully deflated lol.

Ok ill shut up now. Got it all leveled in the rear. Was not easy or fun but same issue OP had. Although I did get the driver side to activate the pump. Basically Just had to keep moving both sensor Arms into several different positions. I was never able to get them to deflate but was able to get the pump to fill the driver side. Now the rears are at 31.5" and the fronts are 30.25 and 30.75.

What would a typical job like this cost to replace both air bags for the x5?

Never seen anyone have anything that's compatible.

So still having inconsistent issues with my driver side height. I'll come out and it's deflated one day. Then won't do it for a couple days. Then I park for work and come out and I'm riding dirty in the driver side again. Start up it fills and I drive away. Get home park over night wake up and all good still.

This leads me to believe it's not the bag since it's very inconsistent from day to day. It's almost like the car just lets the air out once parked when it feels like it.

Very frustrating. Starting to think it's a bad sensor but I was able to manipulate the arm manually after work as it wouldn't re inflate on its own. I was able to pop off the arm and manipulate it to activate the pump and then my right side was all kinds of lifted now and I was still leaning just not slammed on one side. So then I had to go to right side and deflate some air.

Idk anymore. Any thoughts would be helpful and welcome.

The driver's side of my wife's X5 (64k miles) was sinking whenever the car was parked on a significant slope (side-to-side) for the last couple of months. On flat ground the air spring stayed inflated. I assume the deflection caused by the side-to-side slope simply forced the leaking section of the spring to be "opened."

-- As an aside, in hindsight the first occurrence was provoked by lifting the front-passenger side to remove the wheel and extract a rock from the brake. --

I finally replaced the driver's-side air spring with the one from Arnott this past weekend. It was a very simple job and I'm an absolute novice. So far so good.

I thought this was interesting read about the suspension and how it operates.

Dealer just replaced my Driver's side air strut under warranty, and it took under 1 hour (M adaptive suspension).

Interesting to see so many people having similar issues - and it's kind of making me nervous as my warranty is going to run out soon.

I would have got them to replace both while they were at it. You usually replace these in pairs.

I imagine it's only a matter of time before it needs to be done. How long do you have left on warranty?

Well, I still have 3 months, but I bought my car "Pre-owned" so its supposed to have an additional year of Powertrain coverage on Engine, Transmission and Suspension after the 3 months.

Hopefully this counts under Suspension!

I posted a video about this before. Not sure anyone( besides the guy in the video) has done it or the success of it.

You were right - my right rear airbag just gave out. Not even a month after they replaced the reft rear one.

Immediately made an appointment to get it replaced. Hopefully these new airbags hold for a few years.

Sorry to hear that it went out. I knew it would though.
Also, it's ridiculous that they don't replace both at the same time since they are supposed to be replaced in pairs.
