In the market for X6 M...suggesstions?
I'm in the market for a used X5/6. I prefer a 2013 or newer model. What should I look for when test driving? Should I stay away from higher mileage Ms? Obviously I'll check carfax and maintenance history....Any other advice?

X6M (F86) and X5M (F85) - started as 2015 year models, so be careful there, that 2013 year model you mentioned - will be previous generation (which I suppose you don't want). F86/F85 have S63TU engine that is so far known to be a big improvement reliability wise - compared to previous generation S63. So far there are no known specific issues (knock on the wood), but cars are only 3 years old, so take it with a grain of salt. I would say during test drive look for common things like you would look in any other car. Lower mileage M is always better - as it's not exactly Toyota/Honda we are talking here. Besides M cars are often driven hard. You might want to post in specific F86/F85 forum where you might get more detailed advise. |

Excellent advice thanks. Did the S63TU engine have any performance advantages over the S63?

1. new rods, camshafts, crankshafts, new timing chain, new Mahle pistons 2. new Valvetronic III 3. Improved Double VANOS 4. Modernized cooling system 5. New (more powerful) turbos and new control unit So what this means is that it's a lot more reliable, a stronger internals and has a lot more tuning potential. I've seen some 900hp tuned versions (but in this case life of engine might be shortened). Also, it's not only engine, but new transmission and many more things improved on F85/F86. Interior alone is fantastic imho. P.S. Keep in mind that new generation of X5M is coming out in summer of 2020. So it's up to you if you want to wait or not. |
