how tough is it to access and fix? I just picked up a 2014 CPO M5 and it makes the same noise... rather just fix it than take it in unless CPO covers it.

Mine fixed itself after couple of punches on the steering wheel (do not punch an airbag though).

I couldn't find it right away but around page 6 (on iPhone it doesn't show post numbers sorry)
You can see some pictures on how to remove the airbag to get access to the vibration motor.

When I retrofitted TJA I replaced my steering wheel and remembered removing the vibration motor to reinsert it into the new steering wheel ... was an easy job.
