Steering Wheel Noise

Hello everyone,

While cleaning my steering wheel today, I heard loud clicks coming from the engine bay each time the steering wheel was turned in either direction. I am used to cars that lock once the steering wheel moves a bit.

Is this abnormal? No other driving issues.

Thanks in advance!

I had the same issues, eventually it stopped tilting. Dealer replaced the electric motor.

I had the same issue. Steering mechanism was replaced. $5000 job. Was done under warranty. Tech was trying to tell me it was ok first. I asked to give me keys from 5 -6 cars on a lot and asked the tech if any of them doing the same.

What issue did you have that led to the replacement? Sounds from the steering column?

I think it's the ujoint but I'm not sure, this is my first car with electric steering so I'm not sure of the components that make up the steering rack.

Yes. Knocking noise when shaking the steering wheel when engine was off.

Sorry to ask so many details but was it when you did firm and quick back and forth with the steering wheel and the sound would happen at each pivot going back to the opposite direction?

Sorry for the late reply and thanks so much for the replies. Yikes, sounds like something I need to take care of before my warranty expires next month.

The clicking noise is only there when the engine is off. For example, I was cleaning the steering wheel and slight movements cause metalic clanking noise.

Artem - can you please let us know which part was replaced? My dealer claims that it's normal and nothing to worry about. Did the noise go away after replacement?

Thanks

Below is a quick video of the noise - hard to hear but it's metallic clank
