M Sport - Running Board or Not?

2014 BMW X5 F15 M Sport.

Anyone installed running boards on M Sport Package?

Mine is M Sport Package. I found that having running boards might come handy. But I am concern that installing running boards might affect the sport appearance on M Package.

If anyone has pics of running boards installed in M Sport, please post it here.

Wouldn't you have to change the sills on the truck?

Contrary to popular opinion, I decided to try running boards on an M Sport. I like it so far!

I honestly wouldn't mind a functioning running board as it would make my kids' ascent into the car a bit easier... but from everything I've read they're pretty much cosmetic.

they are completely cosmetic. dad has them on hi f16 50i and they just dirty your pants. there is not nearly enough room to put your foot down to step in...and they sit about 2" lower than the floor anywyas. i would quicker lower the car lol

Disagree. I have my 5 yr old trained to step on them instead of the paint. Very useful.

I agree. They make it much easier to get in the car. I love them.

Ha! But the interior is Terra, and I wouldn't want the edge of the seat wearing out. That would hurt my eyes more!

My 3 year old was so excited to now have his own "step." He was partially successful using the side skirt the past couple weeks. The running board is slightly lower than the "interior" step (or sill or whatever it is called), since it has to be, otherwise the door wouldn't close.

It is a "thin" step, so nothing like a Ford Explorer; however, it already came in handy when I was cleaning the windshield earlier tonight. I'm sure it'll help when the roof rack and box goes on for the upcoming summer vacation road trip, too.

Form follows function in my mind. It looks cosmetic, but pretty sure adding them was the right decision for me. Time will tell, I suppose.

That looks much better than I expected. Maybe even better than before. Now add an xline front bumper.

The RBs are more functional than people give them credit for. The are super useful for anyone 5'4 and under. I rarely use them personally but there are angles and areas where they come in useful. For example, if there is debris or something I don't want to step in next to the X5. I'm 6'3 so the RBs can be useful to all sizes.

painting the black on the running board to match the car will make it look a lot better, IMO of course

Could you let me know how much it cost you to add the running board? I also have a M sport and would like to add it too.

I am actually happy that I was not the only one that thought of doing this. Now I want to give it a go. Looks great to me by the way!
