Plugs for stage 1 tune f15

I just got off the phone with a local import shop. I just got stage 1 bm3 tune on my 2015 x5 f15. I want to change the spark plugs as I have 80k miles. I told them that from reading I wanted to go 1 step colder plugs due to the tune. He said unless you're racing or going to the track frequently which I don't he doesn't recommend colder plugs and oem will work just fine. Anyone have any insight on this? The car doesn't really get beat up. I just wanted some more hp and torque as my daily driver.

I have a stage 1 91 octane bm3 tune. I'm still running original spark plugs with no issues it's been 30K miles since install now at 83k. Car runs like stock even under heavy usage. I'm also on the original charge pipe. I'm sure it's a different story if you are running 93 octane.

the shops right, unless ur keeping ur engine constantly in the upper rpm band, re: racing/tracking, or ur tune is so aggressive that ur ecu cannot retard enough timing to prevent knock, u dont really need colder plugs.

I have stage 1 91 as well. May change to 93 in the future as it's pretty readily available in my area. Then I'll just change them out for stock plugs. Are their "stock" plugs that are better than others? Ngk vs Bosch ?

Going a step colder is only recommended w/ the BM3 Stage 2 tune, not stage 1. That being said, I'm running stage 2 93 BM3 tune on OEM plugs right now, but I do plan on changing to a step colder in the next couple of months.

Bringing this old thread back to life.

I just recently bought a 2018 F15 xdrive35i and want to install BM3. I reached out to Bootmod last week about the spark plugs and they recommended to change them to one step colder for better performance.

I know this thread was started in 2021 and it's now 2023, so I have a feeling they have done plenty of research from then to now. So I will be replacing my spark plugs next week and flash the car to Stage 1 93 octane tune.

I have a BM3 stage 1 tune and have had it for about two years on stock plugs. I just changed my stock plug to 1 step colder. I don't notice a difference in performance. The stock plugs had about 30k miles on them when I changed they and they looked ready for the change. My X5 is a 2018 F15 sdrive35i I love the power with the stage one tune. I am looking to add an EV to the fleet next.

I retract my previous comment and highly recommend NGK 97506 swap. I'm running 0.020 gap.

What’s happening, brother? You still driving the sdrive35i? I have the same model (but 2017), and I’m thinking about pumping her up with a catless downpipe, new charge pipe, and BM3 stage 2. Are you still running stage 1 or did you go deeper?

I have the XDrive 35i but I put on er charge pipe lower and upper and got a gfb dv + and custom fabricated exhaust. I remained on bm3 stage 1. I ended up purchasing a G05 with N63TU3

I’ve got a 2017 35i that’s been tuned running on ethanol for almost two years. Been running NGK 97506 plugs gapped at .022” for 40k miles with no issues.
