iPhone X and Aftermarket / DIY Wireless Charging Ideas?

Anyone have pointers to or recommendations for an elegant non-BMW Factory wireless charging solution for iPhone X and 2014 X5?

I just got my iPhone X and love the fact that it now allows for wireless charging, something I now Android phones have had for years. So I'm hopeful that there are some solutions already in the market that other BMW drivers have had success with.

Pointers, pictures, web links all welcomed!

Thanks in advance.

I think if you remove the phone credle, you will have enough space for any wireless pad.

I just did a quick research for you.
The best and most cost efficient way is to go aftermarket.
OEM parts cost too much and you will need to spend a lot of time to get it retrofitted.

This is something I’m curious about also. What aftermarket solutions are working the best for everyone?

I too upgraded my 6S to an X and am happy to have wireless charging now available to me.

Although not an elegant solution, I purchased the Choetech T511 7.5W Qi Wireless Charging Pad (see the attached pics).

I have the “tray” in my center consol/armrest and this sits inside nicely.

Again, not an elegant solution, but it’s a simple USB plug alternative that works for me.

My ideal solution would be something that allows the phone to sit on top of a charging mat that was the same size as the flip-up lid in the center console that covers the ashtray / lighter.

I like having my iphone handy so any solution in the arm rest is a non-starter, for me.

Obviously this has been the question for many of us. On the day of UDE, lots of people took out their iPhone 8 or 8 Plus to try the wireless charging in those test-driving 540i. We all hope there will be more aftermarket options for us soon.

wireless charging is nice and all but then you end up using bluetooth for music which degrades the quality. something to keep in mind.

Hi - just resurrecting an older thread - is there a widely used DIY/aftermarket solution?

I would love some sort of pad which could be put in one of the cup holders. I now put my iphone 6s there with a cable from center console, so I can see whats on the display. Will be buying the Iphone X soon.

Link please. Does it supply enough current to charge the phone with the screen on (like when running Waze)? Thanks.

Yes....it does supply enough current. It supports QuickCharge 2 for Android Phone (10W). In Samsung it's called Fast Charge.

This wireless/magnet mount is what I use, every other wireless charger I used in the car did not supply enough current for continues usage while running Waze (Navigation). For this to work you will need to also purchase their case
https://www.xvida.com/products/magne...e-for-iphone-x
(the people that left a bad review didn't get why it didn't work). It's more than I initially was willing to pay but in my opinion, you will get what you pay for...the charger also has a built-in fan to cool the phone somewhat...

https://www.xvida.com/collections/p2...or-smartphones (If you do decide to purchase this get it on Amazon (less expensive), though pay attention to the version (needs to be version2 from June/2018 or newer) - they also have vent mount etc...

Bought a 10ft micro USB cable from Amazon and tucked the cable away around the windshield "trim" in about 5 minutes... I took the pictures from the back seat, you can hardly see the cables from the driver's seat. (The other device next to it is a dash cam, not to get confused)

For me, this was the best location as I wanted to have it on the windshield and be able to use my custom sun visor (the suction cup is also awesome not like the cheap ones that come of every so often).
