This just happened to me tonight. I was sitting in car for a while, engine off, stereo on. Started the car to leave then shortly after i got the no signal. A minute later idrive rebooted. Weird.

This happened to my iDrive a couple times. Last time while under warranty the dealer saw it so I got a replacement head unit. Never happened again.
I also had the older iDrive with USB problems that got resolved with a replacement unit.

Yes, this is the only solution to the idrive crash problem, see my post above. Don't let dealer feed you other BS, insist they replace the idrive if you are still under warranty, it's a known issue. Otherwise, it will happen more frequently. |

You might be right, but my experience is different. I got that error couple times a year ago, but since then nothing - it's working perfectly. And I know for sure it was a low voltage issue as I had different battery at that time. Of course my single experience is not statistics.

Reading on other bmw forums with same no signal issue, they say bmw does a istep update to fix the issue. What is that? |

That makes sense because the HUD gets the data from idrive.
My issue was not the battery since mine was new and X5 was also hooked up to dealer power supply when they were trouble shooting. It has been a year since they replaced the idrive, works flawlessly now. |
