Shame. Adaptive cruise is amazing. It's good you get the diesel there!

Picked mine up last wk (M50d) - I’m really pleased with it so far - love carbon black but needs cleaning regularly. Found a guy locally to paint correct/ ceramic coat so will hopefully help

Sweet. Where are you getting the paint correction and ceramic coating from?

Yep did mine after pickup and well worth the money. Keeps the swirls at bay as long as you wash correctly and the ceramic coating keeps my CB beading water effortlessly. Just make sure you use the correct products when washing the car in future.
The only problem with this colour is that its gets dirty ever so quickly especially in the winter - but IMO best colour for an X5 when clean.

For 4 years now I've used a two bucket wash with lambs wool mitt, bilberry for the wheels and big towel for drying. But I think having a good base to start with is important. Just not convinced I want to spend more than 100 or 200 to do that.

With my old f31 I did actually Clay it down myself and applied opticoat 2.0 which as I recall was a silicone based coat. That kept it very nice for a year to -8 months but then the beading etc dropped significantly. What's the longevity of a ceramic coat?

Mine has a min 3 year guarantee. After 13 months it still beads well, but I do apply diluted Gtechniq liquid crystal C2V3 once a month when drying the car.

I recall how frustrating the wait was especially the time it crosses the pond
However it will be worth the wait!
Just keep reviewing the X5 on these forums and You Tube and you will know everything you need without studying the owners manual.
Good luck

[QUOTE=335dMSport+;23148454]I've got the Sapphire Black and it looks shite unless it's clean - can't wait for the summer!

The only issue I've found so far is the brakes aren't M Sport and I've had a couple of instances where I've had close calls as they've not been as sharp as I'd expect.

In my M50d X6 about 2.5 years ago Was on the autobahn from Dusseldorf to The Netherlands (Spandu Ballet Concert!) and i was not paying enough attention as the road went from 2 to 1 lane and ended, but 380mm works pretty good taking me from around 240kph!

Your X5 will be superb, my X6 has only had fuel filler cap lock break and rear hatch motorised stop working. 31mpg average over 18K which includes 140-150mph in Germany

PS: Drove my X6 M50d in UK 3x in 3years and you cannot use it, so 4.0d plenty.

I've been through YouTube. I might be picking up some Eastern European languages now as a result...

I think he copy and pasted my original post.

The 40d in the UK after 2500 miles is at 36mpg which is better on a long run obviously - the short stop start trips drink diesel.

It's costing me 13p per mile, so more than covered by the HMRC

aha i see what happened now. he tried to quote you but lost the close quote tag and so when I quoted him, it picked up your quote properly this time, but had the start quote tag from him etc...

It's really weird coz my g30 530d xdrive is only giving me 34.4 or something at the moment...

170 miles of M1 today on 70 mph cruise control and it averaged 38mpg

170 miles of M1 on the way home using sport mode at, lets say more than 70 mph averaged 35mpg

Like I said, it's the town driving and constant acceleration that kills it.

340 miles of thereabouts and I still feel as fresh as a daisy

Yeah right you are. I can't help but give it some welly once the engine is warm and I'm coming to nice road. Also I commute in it so stop-start for about half my journey.

But like you said - fresh as a daisy coz i use the massage seats and the traffic jam assist where possible.
