.... For model year 2015 or 2016 vehicles sold or leased by an authorized BMW center on or after July 1, 2014, the BMW Maintenance Program is provided for the first 4 years or 50,000 miles (non-transferable) whichever comes first. These maintenance programs cover all factory-recommended maintenance as outlined in the vehicle's Service and Warranty Booklet.

...... All new MY17 BMW vehicles and newer come with BMW Ultimate Care. BMW Ultimate Care consists of scheduled maintenance for the 3-year/36,000 mile (non-transferable), whichever comes first.

Ironically for this thread, I stopped by my service advisor today and asked if my cpo had maintenance or anything. He said the same thing, maintenance isn't auto transferred but can be purchased for $750 any time before the original warranty expires. So if you need brakes and a bunch of other stuff, run the numbers and see which is less. Might be worth it to just option the maintenance plan.

2014 still has free maintenance transferable. I have 2014 CPO - so I'm 2nd owner and I maintained it for free at my dealership until now - when my 4 year free maintenance plan finally ended (mine ended in April, but there are still 2014 owners who have it till August or possibly further).
As it was mentioned 2015/16 have 4 years non transferable. 2017+ have 3 years non transferable.
However, I agree for $750 it could be a good option for those who need it.

Yes, forgot to note, mines a 2015, so my option is with no transfer or pay 750 to transfer

I've did a trans fluid changed on my X5 35d recently. Per ZF its not advised that you do a transmission flush, an oil drain and pan/filter changed is Zf's recommendation.

If you done a Zf transmission fluid and pan changed before then its pretty much the same with the exception of X-drive (Gotcha), Its hard to access the rear 3 pan bolts due the transfer case frame been in the way, You can use a scissors jack to slightly lift the Transfer case and use a stubby Torx bit to undo the rear pan bolts

Other wise its very similar to the E90 335i tranmission with only 13 pan bolts (on the 8hp45) vs 23 (on the Zf 6hp26)

That's what I meant, not a flush but replace the pan/oil. my 335 is rwd and has three pedals. I've done the fluid twice on that though. Thanks for the insight! Damn all wheel drive..

Every 30-40k miles or 3-4 oil changes (@ intervals of 10k/or 1 yr oil changes)

I clean every year with compressed air and replace at 20k miles or 3 yrs.

Change the oil filter every oil drain interval. Mann HU816X for $10 on Amazon. No Wally World or other retail chain filters. Mann or Mahle please. Castrol Edge 0W40 European Formula Advanced Full Synthetic good stuff as well.

Air filter every 30K or less in dusty/pollen areas. Check @ 20K - you'll know.

This is a fine German luxury SUV we're talkin' 'bout.

Has anyone done a blackstone lab analysis of their engine oil at 5-6k vs 10k? I'm curious if there is a notable degradation of the oil at the higher mileage interval.
Peace of mind for me really.

I'll prob go ahead and replace the air filter since I'm not sure when it's been replaced (I'm a new owner).

Plan on using Mobil 1 0W-40 from wally world: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-0...-5-qt/23636902
since it requires 6.5 quarts I'll buy 2 and save the rest for next oil change.

Oil Filter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0068N2XWQ...v_ov_lig_dp_it
The dealership wanted $24 so Amazon it is

Air Filter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0068N2XWQ...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Then I'll have my indy shop do the oil change for $15 labor. Can't beat that! I'll replace the oil filter myself and change the oil service indicator

Hello,

I am new to this car and forum (previous cars were: 2011 F25, 2005 E83 and 2001 E46.) I was surprised by this but apparently M1 0W-40 is no longer BMW LL01 approved as of November 2015.

Yes we know but it doesn't actually mean anything. It's all contractual legal Mumbo jumbo with Castrol. Mobil 1 0W-40 is still just fine and in my opinion one of the best you can buy. Nothing has changed with the engines or the formula. Just who is paying BMW to recommend their oil.

Aaah-Thanks Mav.

I just did an in between oil change this morning with Pento. Good to know that I can still use ~20 qts of M1 I have left in the future. It's too expensive to throw in the lawn mower....

I read earlier posts saying 6.5 quarts, 7 quarts, and one post said 6.5 liters. Now previous post says 7 liter which is about 7.4 quarts i think.

I hate that x5 f15 has no dipstick.
