After 15 months sweating in a F15...I said auf Wiedersehen :(
Bittersweet day yesterday! After 15 months in a '17 X5 F15....I said goodbye! Loved the looks, engine, transmission, handling, performance, especially loved the iDrive...but I just could not suffer another summer in an F15 sweatbox!
We had 3 days of 95-100F this past week (it is only JUNE)...and I knew life is just too short to "suffer" like this! 1st world problem I know, before any of you attack me!! I know many of you have wonderfully performing air conditioners in your F15, and I so wish I was one of you. Regardless of using Max AC, stupidly having to disable rear climate, setting the AC down to 66, blue/red wheels on the dash, constantly fiddling with vents...and the dashboard, windshield and roof inside the F15 stays HOT for hours!!! You can literally feel the heat radiating onto you while driving! Many of you (luckily) live in climates that are not too hot. Where I live in Southern California...we have 6-9 months of 90-100+F daily. I welcomed a new 2018 Mercedes-Benz G63 home yesterday. Iridium Silver metallic with bright red and black 2-tone leather. Best part....you start the car, and if it is hot, or even warm...the AUTO AC blasts full power, and then kicks down the blower, like every other car in the world besides the F15. I swear the AC is so cold and so strong in this G-Wagen, you could cool a small apartment. Strong AC, small windshield, cooled seats and window tinting...I will NOT suffer another summer! Thanks for all the help and fun. I might just hang around, since most of you are really fun on this Forum! Last edited by deutsch100; 06-06-2018 at 06:13 PM.. |

As much as I loved my F15, it is just too hot here, for too long to drive around daily and be so hot, uncomfortable and miserable. I do not know what BMW did to the F15. Glass, dash, roof, AC....all terrible. Baking hot!!!!! |

Hell, my AC works just fine, but I’d still trade it for a G! That’s a no brainer if you’re able.

It hasn't gotten bad here yet. You'll see in a couple months. Especially if you leave the car outside during the day.

Wow, sorry to hear about that! What a nightmare! It seems some people have that f15 A/C problem and others don't! Seems like a California problem, and not a first world problem!! Sweet new ride!! That's badass! I like it! How much do those G-wagons cost? I'm not surprised the A/C is super cold in that thing! It looks like it was built for Dubai duty! A bit off topic but I watched a review on the G-Class and they mentioned how small the exterior dimensions are. It's smaller in every dimension than the X5 I believe except height. But it still has lots of presence. I would have never guessed by looking at it.

I'll be honest with you guys, G-klass has presence on the road and it's followers, but it has no handling or speed. If I had that money I would have went with new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S (about same money). The same reason I bought X5 50i - I love power and speed and handling in SAVs. 50i was closest I can afford, hence no X5M. However, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is my childhood dream car lol. Maybe one day.
G-klass is exceptional SUV, a unique one. |

Sorry, but I don't know many who cross shop a G and an X5.. I would go with the ML (GLE?) instead ?
Either way, as summer approaches, I certainly agree that the huge interior of the X5 gets very hot, especially up where the face is. The giant windshield certainly enhances the greenhouse effect. We have a light color plus the rear window shades. We also try to use a sunshade whenever we park. |
