I remember hearing this on a local MB dealer commercial "If you feel like the world is really closing in on you then the G Class is the vehicle for you" enough said

Maybe one day.

G-klass is exceptional SUV, a unique one.
Yeah, one does NOT buy a G-Class for handling (LOL), but the Bi-turbo V8 or V12 in the 63 or 65 is fast as hell, and almost nothing sounds as good, deep and mean!

LOVE the Porsche Cayenne, but the all new one is not out yet and current inventory is very low. The Cayenne is the near perfect combo of SUV meets real sports car. I have driven several...Caynenne, S and Turbo and they are all phenomenal!

Sweet new ride!! That's badass! I like it! How much do those G-wagons cost? I'm not surprised the A/C is super cold in that thing! It looks like it was built for Dubai duty!
Depending on G550, G63, G550 4x4 squared or G65 and then expensive paint or interior options...2018 G-Class ranges from $130,000 to $250,000+

I cannot stand the interior of the upcoming 2019 G-Class. It looks like an S-Class in an SUV. Dual digital screens totally remind me of 80s Night Rider, LOL.
I love, love the more traditional look of the current G-Class, hence the reason I jumped on a 2018. Also, all our local dealers said the first 6 months of 2019 G-Classes will have a market add on of at least $15-30K OVER sticker!!

Quite a few of my wife's friends drive them (popular among the ladies, at least here in Texas) but they drive horrendously. Drove one to Houston once and it was a full time job just keeping it from driving crooked.

But they certainly look the part.

I've heard that the driving characteristics are pretty bad.

@deutsch100 honest question here, what is the appeal of the G-Wagon?
In fairness I have not driven one, but note you've had quite a spread of nice vehicles, and curious the appeal. Obviously you to having had 9(!) of them!

I would imagine they drive like tanks and so provide a 'feeling' of imperviousness (as well as obvious engine power on the higher models). Is it that feeling that is the juice??

I also personally don't see how the hell they command and get the price points on these vehicles!

Cheers.

LMAO!! Loved Knight Rider too....30 years ago!! ha ha ha As a kid, I loved it too! I wanted Kit so bad!

I just hate the way the MBZ S-Class, E-Class and upcoming 2019 G-Class have those dual digital screens. Looks so unimaginative and strange!

We are nearing G-Class #10, LOL since 2004! They are amazing on the highway and high speeds. MBZ sometimes lovingly refers to the G as the "Flying Brick". It feels glued to the road and made of solid granite.

BUT....a G-Class does not "handle" like an X5, Cayenne, RR Sport. It is top heavy and cumbersome!

You just hit the nail on the head. A G-Class is a feeling, kind of like a full size Range Rover. The G-Class feels literally like a tank, and the driving position is basically like a Mack truck, LOL. Everything is so solid, heavy and you can tell it is such an old school, over-built design. Outward visibility is incredible, and the G just feels "good". They have been commanding high prices for decades. I too, don't know how interest has never waned! I think some of the price and appeal is that The G is basically hand built, by highly trained and skilled Austrian workers! The G is just....The G!!

One thing though, they sound absolutely incredible. No exhaust note beats an AMG starting.

Makes sense, and glad for you that you have the luxury of choice, thanks for sharing. I did have a friend years back that had one and also raved about it back then. Enjoy and hopefully we'll see you back here again...

2004 to 2018 is a long time. They started only with G500 imported to the USA, and then G55, then G63 and then new version of G63 Biturbo.

With each major change we have changed too. Sometimes for engine, and/or transmission and sometimes for interior updates/colours/features!

If you do not love a model, you do not get so many

We had 3 days of 95-100F this past week (it is only JUNE)...and I knew life is just too short to "suffer" like this! 1st world problem I know, before any of you attack me!!

I know many of you have wonderfully performing air conditioners in your F15, and I so wish I was one of you.

Regardless of using Max AC, stupidly having to disable rear climate, setting the AC down to 66, blue/red wheels on the dash, constantly fiddling with vents...and the dashboard, windshield and roof inside the F15 stays HOT for hours!!! You can literally feel the heat radiating onto you while driving!

Many of you (luckily) live in climates that are not too hot. Where I live in Southern California...we have 6-9 months of 90-100+F daily.

I welcomed a new 2018 Mercedes-Benz G63 home yesterday. Iridium Silver metallic with bright red and black 2-tone leather. Best part....you start the car, and if it is hot, or even warm...the AUTO AC blasts full power, and then kicks down the blower, like every other car in the world besides the F15. I swear the AC is so cold and so strong in this G-Wagen, you could cool a small apartment. Strong AC, small windshield, cooled seats and window tinting...I will NOT suffer another summer!

Thanks for all the help and fun. I might just hang around, since most of you are really fun on this Forum!

Congrats, we're quite a G family too. I have had 1 and my dad has had about 15 haha. Currently he has a 2016 G63 and a 1991 G320. The speed is certainly there, but we personally don't buy them for speed or handling, just the sound of the doors closing shows the strength and solidarity of the vehicle. Congrats again, love the color combo.

Terrible car for DD in my opinion. New one should be much better for daily. The previous gen was starting to feel like a dinosaur. But your car so congrats.
