One thing I noticed last week, as we had FIVE straight days of 90-100F, is that even when my new G-Class is parked in the full sun outside, and the interior is baking hot...when you touch the inside roof, headliner the car/materials are almost cool to the touch!!

My F15 40e and 35d, the roof, headliner was so hot and even after driving for an hour or more...the inside cabin materials would still be putting off heat, adding to the problem of the anemic F15 climate control. It is almost like the X5 has no heat insulation :-O

Had some 90+ degree days here recently and had to park in the sun for a couple hours during one of them. My F15 cooled down just fine with icy coldness and rear climate on. I'm wondering if they fixed the issue in the 2018s or I have just gotten used to how terrible the AC was in my 2012 Grand Cherokee

I’m confused by the different A/C experiences. Mine doesn’t have any issues cooling it down and freezing us out and our outside temps are 95-105* daily, where my X5 sits outside in direct sunlight for 8-9 hours a day. I keep rear climate on and sync, never had any issues.

I have a BSM X5 and here in the Texas heat, it gets so frigidly cold that my kids start complaining.

Both my '17 40e and 35d F15 A/C got cold, I mean really cold!!! That was never the issue.

In both my F15s, it was the amount/force of air and that the interior materials of the car got so ungodly hot and just retained heat for a very long time!

Even if I had my blower intensity to #5, temp set to 66F...if I used AUTO, the A/C would basically dribble out. Cold, ice cold...but just beyond weak.

Run the system at Max AC, of course would much stronger, but very loud and annoying to keep on Max for a long drive....and even with Max AC running for a long period of time, the roof, headliner, dashboard and front glass stayed boiling hot. You could literally feel the heat radiating

Our 2017 X5 continues to cool us easily in 102 F today - it automatically dropped the air flow as the set temp was reached.

Certainly confusing to read about vastly different experiences.

I had the same issue with heat radiating from the windshield and dashboard. I tinted my windshield (CIR 80) and it now feels like a totally different car, no hot windshield/dashboard anymore. AC is now capable of cooling the car pretty quickly in Auto mode with outside temp around mid 90s. I just hope the comfort level remains the same when the temps hit low 100s, if not I ll get the sunroof tinted.

I think the largest issue isn't so much the cooling ability of the X5, but the fan speed if you have the 4 Zone AC system. If I sync them all, it diverts air to the rear and even on full blast, it feels like a light cool breeze, which isn't enough for me in the summer if my car was parked out side (black on black, and 110+ all summer). If I turn the rear zones off and only have the front, I am blasted with ice cold refreshing air that cools an otherwise hot oven down very quickly, and to my satisfaction. The only complaints are when its 110+ out, the car was in the sun, and I have 4 people in the car, which requires the rear AC to be on... thankfully that's rare for me and I just keep the rear AC off. I don't know if X5s with non 4 zone AC have the same issue or not.

Texas here, no issues with my AC not cooling down my black X5. I think Ive had one short(15 mins) trip where I set it to Max AC and actually left it on the whole way. I also have no complaints about the comfort of the vented seats.

This seems to work for quite a few, but oddly even in my 40e & 35d F15, if I disabled the 4 zone (rear climate)...it did not increase air flow/blow power in the front! Air coming out was always ice cold, just so weak!!

As this has been said a million times, one should NOT have to even think about having to disable rear climate control in such an expensive, modern BMW.

The only other BMW I have ever owned that had dismal, awful A/C was my 2006 E90 330i. As bad, if not even slightly worse than my two F15s. I think I survived one Summer or less in that car. After I dumped the E90,I spent a year in a Lexus SUV, boring as all hell, but flawless and incredible A/C. Then I switched to a launch edition E70 X5. Great A/C, but the car had so many problems and spent so much time in Service, BMWNA not only bought my car back....they paid me for my time driving it. LOL Awful X5, great company!

My Jet Black F10 A/C was far better at managing temps when set to auto. I find myself fiddling with the A/C in my X more. I have a Jet Black 2016 F15 and hated that I had to run Max AC to get cooled off with the downside of it being so loud. I had CIR tint installed and it is a pretty significant difference. I do think I will go back and have the sunroof and windshield tinted too. However, the windshield might be out if it screws up HUD.

I have my sunroof and windshield tinted with Suntek CIR 70, no issues with the HUD.

Our 2017 M6 and my last three 7 Series....you could chill an apartment with the A/C. It seems really just the F15, that many (but oddly not all) have cooling problems with!

We did a sample tint on my F15 with HUD. It totally distorted (basically ruined) the HUD

Funny, not funny you say fiddling with the F15 A/C. In both my 40e and 35d, I was forever fiddling with the vents... trying to get them to blow on my face, or set them to blow up and try and mitigate some of the heat!!! radiating from the windshield or headliner/roof/panorama roof. Adjusting the stupid blower intensity (that should just be Auto), lowering the set temp in hopes the fan blower would blow stronger, disabling rear climate control, enabling rear climate control....OMG. It was a job, just to drive the F15 in the heat. I do miss the 35d mpg though!! I used to fill up ever 3-4 weeks. Now I must fill up the G63 every 5-6 days :-O Sh*t! LOL The AMG start up sound and acceleration though! Man, that does take some sting away from visiting the pump so often!

Which brand did you test?
I am using Suntek on my windshield, no impact on HUD.

It was kind of basic, non-metallic 3M.

If the G wagon was 40k....would it looks so sexy or just look like an ugly box on wheels?

A/C on my new F15 freezes up the entire car even in the 90+ humid days in NYC. No issues here 👍🏼

I live in KC and have the same issue. It works fine most of the time but I am always changing the temp, moving the vents, and disabling rear AC if kids aren't with me. I have never had to do this in any other vehicle (first BMW owned).....and the seat ventilation is an absolute joke!!!!!

Seat ventilation is a scam if you get Nappa leather. The perforated sections of the seats are downgraded to Dakota leather which takes away from the plushness of Nappa leather
