New 2018 x5 Coming Next Week (Kidneys)

Hey Gang,

First and foremost - thanks to the community for all the help, tips, etc. It really makes this experience and process that much more enjoyable.

I am expecting delivery of a 2018, Sport Gray x5 xDrive, with M Sport package and more. I was unaware the kidney grills did not come in glossy black.

Finding them is not an issue, was looking for good quality, Non OEM versions. I'm open to OEM but the only difference seems to be price.

If anyone has any recos, please lmk.

I got mine from BMW and had them fitted prior to pick up.
Just as a side note the OEM grills are not fully gloss black just the outer frame as the grills are sort of semi matt finish.
Not sure this is the case if you bought off fleebay?
The M double slatted are fully gloss black if that's what you are looking for.

So you purchased OEM ones. I'm considering non-oem as the net States the extra cost just isn't worth it.

I'm looking for alternative non-oem solutions.

Joe - do you have a link to your seller? I need to get them in by Tuesday of next week (6/25.). Dealer said they would install for free.

@RGSport - is it bad that I prefer the look of the single vs dial slat? It’s def not an M, so why pretend right? Y’all sell single slats?

Can’t wait for it. I know the G05 is around the corner but landed a great deal on it. Had no idea the 2018 x5 was ranked #1 luxury suv on US News and Reports (not that means a single thing...haha!)

I agree. If you don’t have an M car don’t put M parts on it. My opinion at least.

It is not bad.
But I have to explain this. Going dual slat doesn't mean that you are trying to be an M car.
It is your personal preference on what parts and what looks you are trying to mod your car.
If that is the case, then why go "M" Performance style single slat replica?
Are you trying to involve "M" in your car?

Anyway. Regarding single or dual slat.
It is your preference.
When I had my F15, I like the dual slat, but even I prefer the single.
My reasoning, it makes the car beefier.

While the dual slat, it makes the car look sleeker.

And I was going after beefy look on my X5.
If I was going to do sleek look, I would use different wheel and dual slat kidney grill.
And I had those mods before X5M came out. So I won't waste money to change my mods.

Again, that's how I see it. Some have different vision to their car, so again, it is your preference.

Fair points all around. Totally agree, this is all about preference. If I got single slat, I'm pretty sure that I would want the double, shortly there after. Haha..This is life right?

Perhaps beefy is the way to go.

Asides from that, the quality of the grills were pretty good all around? Fit was on point?

The fit is perfect, the gloss looks like oem however the only thing that I have to say is that the paint quality does not feel like the oem grilles. But to me as long as they fit correctly and look great thats what matters ����

RG -- wanted to let you know that I ended up getting the dual-slat. Based on your post, I was looking at pics and noticed that the nose is more aggressive (which I like.)

Appreciate your feedback, it steered me in that direction and wanted you to know that.

I am expecting to pick her up mid-week. Will post some pics when I receive!

RG - truth be told, the Car Gods are in your favor. They must not have liked the fact that I didn't purchase the grills from you.

My car was delayed a couple of days, and as a result, the dealership threw in OEM slats as a sign of good faith.

My next aftermarket accessory will be purchased from you (if you carry it.)

I am leasing, so I won't be going too crazy.

I'll post pics on a follow-up post.

I got OEM gloss black from the service department here in NYC. Paid $100 for them and installed them myself. Got the oem since I don't really like the double slat and last time I didn't buy an OEM grill for my 6er, the paint chipped off a lot.

So far no chipping with this one.
