N63T Broken Hose!

Hi all!

I heard a whistling sound this morning when I started the X5 up and checked the ECU via torque and there were no errors. I checked the engine bay area and found the following hose broken. Can anyone identify it so I can replace it? Can the car be driven, can duct tape provide a temporary fix?

Thanks

Look in this same forum a few topics ago: "DIY - 50i Spark Plugs" on page two, it may refer to your problem, about replacing a broken ventilation hose.

Yes here's Maverick's post that he warned us about that hose (part# 11158647298) and advised to replace it: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...2&postcount=16

It's $110 from here: https://parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/...158647298.html

As a temporary fix you can use a sturdy duct tape, while you are waiting for a replacement part.

P.S. Not my business, but I almost had a seizure when I saw N63T. Already second post I'm seeing this. I initially thought it's some kind of a Euro spec engine version of our N63TU lol.

Haha yep. Exactly what was broke on mine. See my post for all the info you need. Much cheaper if you order from a wholesale dealer than local dealer. Either way they're gonna have to order it most like and duct tape or better I would recommend electrical tape due to its playability and ability stretch. But be careful cuz it's very brittle stuff and will break again. Mine broke just by putting my hand under it to clean up the spilled oil.

I don't know about the v8, but i just had a similar issue with the n55.

BMW should definitely up their game when it comes to plastic around the engine bay.

Great stuff guys, thanks for the links! Does anyone know if I could wrap the new hose in heat tape to prevent it from turning to dust again?

Correction: I'll pick this one up from ECS tuning... its wrapped in rubber.

This is cool, I just got the regular replacement from the dealership!

I would also like to know what can I warp it with to prevent cracking in the future?

I am using HVAC tape temporarily till my new hose comes in the mail. I'd use heat tape if I were taping it. On another note, my local dealer suggested I also replace the the entire vent piece at around $340 for that part. I'll hold off on this entire piece till it follows suite and breaks.

Yea, for $340 without labor I would wait for it to break too.

Luckily my n55 crank case vent hose came quite cheap at $33.. best of luck with your car.

Its actually quite common for these crank case hose to break, they are exposed to serious heat and they're very hard and stiff lines to begin with,

My 2014 740li with N55 had the same problem the crankcase hose snapped off after when replacing my spark plug, i used heat shrink wrap and it was fixed.

Yeah, that hose is made from hard thin plastic and is right above turbos. Cats heating up to 1700F are just couple inches below this hose. If it was made from thick rubber - then it would have lasted for almost eternity.

I got it to my dealer instead of purchasing that part via ecs tuning and got it all done for the low price of $50 (Extended warranty deductible). Also, my mpg went from 9 to 11.1 and I now have a misfire on cylinder 5. Most likely a bad spark plug, but must be related to this crankshaft vent hose. Both the hose and corroded spark plugs would explain my earlier concerns when I had the maintenance coverage still lol. My next assumption is that my spark plug/s and/or coil/s will be under an extended warranty since they are giving off errors and I have not reached my 60k maintenance cycle?

Glad to see they replaced both hose assemblies. Especially since the smaller one is about $300 for the part alone.

Did you tape yours back up and drive to the dealer? That's the only thing I was afraid of and opted to just eat the cost of the cheaper hose and I put in myself vice dealing with my extended warranty

Yeah, my service guy told me I could when I called and suggested it. I explained that the whistling sound is how I discovered it. Its definitely a known issue with them.

Which one do you mean by lower hose? The front or the back hose?
