Risks of buying Canadian X6 M
I found a good deal on a 2015 X6M fully loaded in the low 50s. However it’s a Canadian model, and I’m wondering what if any potential issues I may run into. For instance I know the dashboard is reading in kilometers is that something I can change to miles through the I drive? Should I have any other concerns?

I'm not sure if the M has HUD or digital speedo as well. The cluster that you'd typically look at only has kph. You can change the HUD speedo or digital speedo part on my M4 to MPH through drive. The cluster has to be physically changed to show mph if I remember correctly.

Was also informed on this forum that the windshield would need to change, to meet USDOT and insurance requirements.
Cluster will require an EEPROM reset too. All worth it if overall price is low imho. |

Price is low 50s. The most I will pay is 53k, Fully loaded with every option other than night vision. 67k miles with all maintenance. Not saying msrp is critical factor, but it’s 138k sticker price.

Logical , this is a very "logical" move. I'd pursue it myself, unless you could find a similar domestic deal.
There are some "semi desperate" people every now and then who want to unload on their vehicle for one reason or another. Do a exhausting search on importing before doing it as there could bureaucratic hurdles. Keep us posted! |

PPI came back clean. More than 50% remaining on brakes and tires and suspension was nice and tight. He said the car is cherry. The seller did a service incl oil change and fluid flush. The car is actually located in upstate New York and has already passed through customs. Going for a test drive today...keeping fingers crossed!

Make sure the car has been officially imported including all of the official paperwork and any applicable taxes etc at the border. Otherwise you may not be able to register/insure it.
Source: have imported several vehicles from the USA to Canada, and safe to assume there are similar requirements going the other way. |

Yes dealer seller...they take care of all the export docs. If I buy I’d pick the car up in the US. Yes it is out of warranty. But wow...what an amazing vehicle! The only thing I can see was different was the speedo. The HUD and all other gauges were able to be adjusted. But only 4k miles left on the rear pads not sure if it will also need rotors replaced. Other then that she was mint!!

Easier said than done. Make sure you are able to get all the docs for import to get a title issued in US.

Not on top of my head. But from what I remember a over 5 years ago (I went from Canada->US and US->Canada both), I needed a letter from BMW dealer that all recalls were done and the vehicle was in good shape, also needed to get km/miles changed, and day-time lights coded. Then basically someone has to take the car to the border customs office (better to call ahead) present the papers to customs and get an import certificate of sorts after paying any duties (Might be zero on the car since its made in SC, but not all are so check ahead). Remember in all of this, depending on the exact law, you can't drive the car after the import since its not plated in the US yet and after the import, old title and hence the old plates are invalid. Then you take (i.e. tow the car with) the customs certificate to DMV and get a VIN title and pay sales tax, get insurance, get inspection, get plates and then can drive the car. Usually better to have an auto broker tow the car across the border and do the paperwork for you - they will charge anywhere from $500 onwards but it may be worth the time and hassle if you are importing into a neighboring state.
So you can see, its not a straight shot, some dealers will do this for you, others won't. Usually people are importing to Canada and not from Canada, so you might have to dig around for info.
