Anyone repainted their X5/past cars?

I'm considering doing a color change on my carbon black X5. Anyone ever done this to their X5 or any other vehicle for that matter? Any other better alternatives? I love the X5, but the black/blue is super annoying trying to keep clean.

There was a forum member who did Autoflex (many coats) and was very happy. Autoflex is a next step from plastidip. Plastidip was a DIY thing, while Autofelx is more for Professional paint shops. It's more sturdy like real paint, but still removable after 3-5 years to go back to your oem color.
There's also wrap too. I wouldn't paint my car with real paint - it's permanent and you might run into issues during reselling. Just my opinion man.

Yea the resell down the road seemed like it could be a hurdle. Then again, I may end up driving it until the wheels fall off like I did with our 325i. It’s my wife’s daily driver, but she’s a stay at home mom so really it doesn’t get driven a whole lot. Mainly out to dinner and things like that. I’ve got about $7k in negative equity in the car, so trading it doesn’t seem like a great move either. But I am kinda tired of carbon black..

I would get it wrapped. Tons of colours to choose from, and less than a good paint job would cost. Plus, you can remove it and not worry about resale. Just make sure to get someone good. Don't want anyone cutting into the paint.

Also, about being tired of carbon black , I hear ya. I've only had it for a few months but it gets covered in dust so quickly. I had a white X4 and LOVED it. Looked incredible when it was clean, horrible when winter came and the slush stuck to it lol. Canadian winters suck.

+1...was "roughly-quoted" 10K to actually paint the whole vehicle, i.e. remove doors etc.
Some colors are just rough to keep clean.

No way I could justify spending that much for a paint job. I've been considering wrapping my own. Love to do the space grey, think it's probably the easiest to keep clean.

Yea not a chance I’d spend that much. I’d just trade it in and pay the difference at that point.

I came from a white X3, which I loved because it always looked clean as well. Not sure what I’ll do at this point.

I would honestly look into a wrap. Not sure how handy you are but there are tons of videos and tutorials on YouTube. I watch a few different channels but am a big fan of CKWraps. He seems to show the most in depth. Or, take it to a wrap shop. Probably looking at 3k or so for a shop to do it.

I’ve got a family member who owns Guardian Security Films here in Myrtle Beach. He does a lot of high end cars. I’m just a bit confused about a wrap. Can you wash it or what? I don’t want a flat color. Maybe Nardo Grey or something like that. But then when I open the doors, you’ll see the original color? Seems kinda lame..

Oh that's convenient. You can wash it same as washing paint. You can get different finishes. Matte gloss or satin. And they can wrap in the door jambs as well. Usually it is more expensive because it involves more work.
I also like the nardo grey.

Lol for the record, I don't have any mod money. If my wife new the amount of stuff I bought just to clean the car she'd kill me.

See, this is really an ideal situation for me. My “relative” is actually on my wife’s side of the family. So it’s kinda like a “hey, I’m doin it to send them business” situation 😂

I might go for it.

It's a win win. You give them business and you get a new colour!
