Is this remote controlled Z8 toy worth $50?
The listing says Z4 but it’s incorrect. Does it look like its worth 50? The box is all banged up.

I dunno about you, but that's the only way I'd get my hands on a Z8

do you mean as a collectible or as a toy?
if a toy, then it's worth what ever the high bidder is willing to pay. as a collectible die cast, absolutely not worth that much. RC's in general are not seen as collectible because of (typically) poor attention to detail, low quality of small usually plastic parts and only loose acquaintance with whatever the claimed scale might be. there are likely exceptions, true in some RC aircraft for example, but I'd not consider this item sight unseen. on the upside: it's 1/12 scale so would make a fairly hefty toy. |

My experience with cheap remote control toys is that the batteries last about 5 recharge cycles and cost more to replace than the toy cost to begin with.

A few months ago I saw a super clean Z8 in a parking lot, had 3 work friends with me and when I saw the owner I said "Hey, I really like your Z8." The guy looks at me and says "That's not a Z8, its an Alpina". I was stunned.

Yes. Alpina made the Z8 more of a grand tourer instead of an e39 M5 coupe. Alpina used the M62(4.4l 540i/740i) engine and enlarged it to 4.8l from their B10S that was in production at that time. Alpina also ditched the manual for the 5speed ZF autobox. The Alpina model Z8 had less Hp but far more torque and lower down the rev range. I believe the gearing was also shorter for better acceleration at the cost of top end speed.
