I still think the new 3 series is one of the ugliest cars on the road. I'm still replacing a Lexus IS we currently have with one in a few months. Its amazing how the auto companies make our minds up for us.

I thought the current X5 was terribly ugly when it first came out. A year later I traded a Range Rover in for one and am currently on my 2nd.

It will be fine when it comes out and it will still outsell the previous model... Just look at the ultra boring/best selling 5 series.
On the 3 series try the msport,it's the most beautiful car in the 3ers segment IMO

I agree with you on the X5, I don't think they can mess it up.

Just curious, does anybody know when production of the current generation x5 stops, and the F15 begins?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thanks! YES, this must be added!

"Pat myself on the back, make myself not feel conscious that my vehicle that I just bought is about to already be outdated."

I recently told a friend that, for some reason loves 7er's, that they were already working on the next gen 7er. He said "Damn, if I get an F01, my car will already look old when that comes out." To which I responded "Buying a BMW is like buying an iPhone or a computer, your less than a year away from being 'outdated' in one way or another, face-lift, advancements to the Nav system, new generations, new packages and features, something is always changing." He's not looking at a new one anyway, pre-face lift...

The front doesn't look too bad. The back doesn't look that good but I think it will grow on you. When the second generation of the Cayenne came out, I remember people saying the back looked too rounded. Nowadays, it looks pretty good to me and the first generation looks really boxy and old.

One thing that has bothered me in the past is that they have artificially limited the choice of options with the base 3.5 model. You would have to buy the premium trim to gain access to all options. Basically, they force you to buy $7000 worth of predefined options just to access other options. Does anyone know if they are sticking with this ASP raising marketing gimmick with the new X5?

There is a bunch of new stuff (am reading this from BMW official printouts for Europe)....
xdrive30d will have 258PS
XM50d 381PS
xdrive50i 450 PS, these cars will be available from launch (not quite sure what that is yet).
sdrive25d 218PS
xdrive25d 218PS
xdrive40d 313PS
xdrive35i 306PS
Available approx. 1 month after launch... So not only 4 cilinders (diesels) are available, but also sdrive (no 4 wheel drive) is now an option also.
List of options is extensive, like really extenisive and have no time to type them now, but things like leather dashboard and B&O sound are optional, 3rd row seats as well!
Navi Pro has 10.25" Display with 1280*480 resolution.... There is also rear seat entertainment with 2*9.2" screens with DVD... Am sure this will be all over the net, but I just may be the first one to post it on xbimmers.com. Cheers!

1234vani, interesting, I have yet to see anything on the web on this.

In the US, the current X5s are based on the 35i (2009), 50i (2008) and 35d (2007). These same engines are used widely across different models. 50i and 35d look like the are due for upgrades. Your post seems to imply that 50i goes up from 408PS to 450PS. 35d would get replaced by other diesels? It looks like 35i isn't due for an upgrade until another year or so. This is too bad since I would primarily be interested in 35i.

Is idrive touch and connected drive part of the offering? These are some features I'm very interested in.

Regarding 35d (am not sure of the USA naming convention, but the engine 35d is likely to have the performance of a 40d in Europe). iDrive touch is part of Navi Professional as well as the connected drive features.

Same feeling here. For the first time since 1996 am not going to be getting the new model when it comes out. I went to auto-show and with all the cars around you get the feeling BMW slowly becoming boring Mercedes. The one I liked so much (650 / M6 Gran Coupe) is out of reach. The rest of the line feels so so. Doesn't tag at you like before. Too much evolution and not enough revolution. BMW sales are going to the moon, but they are doing that by having a gazzilion models and not the same exceptional vehicles. In the end BMW will dilute itself as a brand. They are everywhere these days.

Now the new Range Rover Sport Wow!! I want one now.

Same sausage different length and width. Too many models all looking like well you know the rest! Anyone seen the X4 concept? It looks like bastard child of an X6 and X3. I mean its just not good looking at all. The X6 rather unique or drop dead gorgeous depending on beholder, but we can agree I think that X4 is neither unique nor good looking. It should look better than the X6, but it fell short by a mile.
