If your transmission (GA8HP75Z) is anything like the 6HP ZF transmission then replacing the solenoids would be the first step i would do. Dealers don't replace this, they just replace the whole transmission. |

X5 trunk squeaking ?
I know what a rattle is but i would say this is more of a squeak like plastic making a rubbing noise have had to dealer and we have replaced the rear drop down tail gate plastics and bushing with some success and adjusted rear tail gate latches and also have applied electrical tape to the top latches with no success to remedy the noise anymore ideas out there or services bulletins would be appreciated.

2017 F15 Reliability?
In the market for a CPO 2017 F15..Does anyone have anything positive to say about reliability? Maybe I should'nt be on the "F15 Issues" thread but figured I'd at least give it a shot.

I just had to replace the front control arms on my '15 X5 after suddenly getting some serious rattling. The techs said this was due to a lack of lubrication on the parts (which obviously come lubricated and sealed from the factory). Unfortunately it was just out of factory warranty with a little over 4 years. Still not something I was expecting at the 45k mile mark. Contacted BMW NA for service credit but was refused.

It was a little less - $1800 and change... This wasn't even "retail." This was insurance pricing, due to the fact that I had an independent appraiser with me. It would've been over $2k at retail. I had someone turn into me in L.A. recently and thought that it was possible that the suspension issue was related (they forced us up onto the curb).

Separate question. I recently had work done on my car from someone side swiping me. The drivers side mirror was replaced and now doesn't fold in quite as much as the passenger side (totally triggering me every time I fold the mirrors in). Before I go back to the body shop - this isn't some weird quirk with the F15, right? I never noticed it prior, but I would appreciate someone taking a look at their mirrors the next time they fold them in and letting me know

X5s are manufactured in Greer, South Carolina at the Spartanburg BMW plant and modified for armored/security versions in Mexico at the BMW de México Toluca plant. Since July 2009, some assembly operations are also performed in Kaliningrad, Russia by Avtotor.
You can also look at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 11th VIN digit which reveals the country and plant where the BMW was built:

I guess I should throw my hat in the ring here. My '14 50i needs a new engine because of bottom end knocking...

You need to update this thread with what you're going to have to pay (seems like a steal) and also where we clearly all need to go when our engines shit the bed.

Leave it to BMW to design a car that leaks oil right onto the cats. it's because of the slant 6 design (and a small tilt to the rear), plus gravity, oil naturally pools on the passenger side corner of the engine which just happens to be where the hottest part of the exhaust is. These synthetic oils are essentially liquid plastic, hence when you get an oil there...burning plastic smell. When I do these valve cover not only do I put a little RTV in each of the corners and the middle of the gasket to keep it seated during install (allowing the RTV to flash first), but I also put an uber thin layer of RTV all along that wicked corner to ensure that there will be no place for the oil to go. No more leaks.
