I suggest to also inspect DME and its connections, and check continuity/resistance on both ends of the wiring.
Not sure if such scenario is possible in F series, but back in E46 and leaking sensors days I had shorted DME due to oil sipping thru wiring. |

Still waiting to hear from my mechanic. He told me this morning a wire was slightly split near the ground for cylinders 1 and 2. Im hoping it was that. Thanks for the advice. That will be my next step if it doesn't.

How about a good old fashioned disconnect of the negative battery cable for about 20 minutes... And see if resolves the issue.. Will cost zero to try.

You should use the Bosch coils as Bosch is the only manufacturer for n63tu engine. For the first version of n63 Delphi is manufacturer. Besides if you run the part numbers listed on Fcp web site in Delphi coil description non of those numbers is compatible with n63tu. I had a misfire and did some research, so bought Bosch coils and Bosch pugs from fcp and the misfire gone. So my suggestion to try Bosch coils

Yes tried everything. Have moved coils and spark and it does not matter what's in cylinders 1 and 2 no spark is coming out from there. Compression test was done as well and everything is normal. Seems like the DME or CPU shut those cylinders down completely or those mosfets from the DME are done.

I just mentioned that yours is 3.5 sdrive. Did you try to diagnose that issue with ISTA?

Have you backprobed the coils with an oscilloscope and voltmeter and actually tested if they are getting the proper signal? Have you tested the resistance on the wires? How do you know that it is not the wiring? You can't just replace components without testing the wiring. The DME will purposely shut down cylinders if it feels some action is so out of range that it will damage the engine. that is what it is supposed to do. Have you connected the vehicle to ISTA+?

The vehicle has been at the shop since I posted this. It's a good BMW INDY Shop in AZ. I'm going off what they are telling me. Although I don't think the wiring harness has been looked at.

Hi,
Same problem here. Mine is cylinder 5; replace all the spark plugs, swap the coils around but the problem stay with cylinder 5. However, when swapped the wire connected to the coils between 5 and 6 ; 6 started misfiring as well. So my guess is to check the wire at this point. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated |
