What do you use to clean your leather seats?
Recently tried Lexol leather cleaner with there conditioner on my dakota leather seats and Im a bit unimpressed as it made the seats more glossier. Did some research on autogeek and it seems using oil based conditioners on dakota leather does nothing but build up on top attracting more dirt and grime. Im leaning towards in trying out the leatherique prestine clean as just a one step without the rejuvinator oil as that process seems to be more directed for older worn out leather any thoughts? How do you guys keep your interior clean

Have had excellent results using both Bickmore and Swissvax.
Have to be careful with Dakota leather, test on an inconspicuous spot.

Almost all modern cars come coated but dakota leather specifically has a thicker/harder layer of urethane coating; applying conditioner which usually contain waxes and oils would be pointless as it won't soak into the pores. The point is to know that your cleaning the coating not the actual leather which many think there doing by watching one too many youtube videos. Any water based cleaner or even just a damp microfiber towel will keep your leather clean and durable.

I just asked this Q at dealer today since I have white NAPA leather, I know, brave me.
Anyways, dealer detail shop showed me they use BMW spray on foam glass cleaner. Spray on and wipe off, worked wonders. This is just for cleaning, still need conditioner to restore moisture. |

Is the foam cleaner you're referring to 83-12-2-298-210 ? Ive heard bmw products aren't that bad and was thinking about trying this out but wasn't sure if it was ok for dakota as it lacks information in that regard. |

No, this one: https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...er-83192446567 Should be fine with Dakota leather as that's the most common BMW leather, and it's actually more durable than Napa leather. They told me this cleaner is a lot cheaper than Bmw leather cleaner and works great. |

You beat me to the punch...as I read the original post...my first thought was to KNOW your leather...and you called it in regards to BMW's Dakota leather. Dakota leather has a poly-synthetic coating which blocks the pores...but also make it more "durable"...so spending money on products designed to "soak in" etc will be wasteful. If you have Merino & Nappa leather...then products that can soak in etc are worth the money and helps maintain these higher quality leathers (especially Merino since it is a natural uncoated leather). See the info below about the different types of leathers BMW uses...and if you don't know what aniline leathers are...just do a google search so that you'll know what type of leather you're dealing with and then you'll understand what types of cleaning products & conditioning products will work best with it. BTW...Vernasca leather falls between Dakota & Nappa

Since most leather is coated, no matter what the quality, a clean microfiber dampened with warm water will really clean your seats. Try it. Grab a light colored short nap microfiber, like a yellow one, get it damp with warm water and go to town. Then take a look at how much dirt you'll pull off.
If you want to follow that up with applying a product, I have always been a fan of Swissvax. |

Merino leather will be matte and softer, as the guy in video said, test it first on inconspicuous place. That goes for any product which will be applied to leather.
