Anyone running dash cams? Radar detectors?

Are you F85/86 owners running dash cams? While insurance companies in the U.S. don't offer discounts for them, I am debating getting one installed.

I'm also debating getting an old Valentine One radar/lidar detector upgraded and installed, but it seems like the utility of detectors has been negated by new technology that police are using and the fact that Waze might be more reliable in terms of locating police. Thoughts?

I use both Waze and radar detector .. double protection.. it's working 95% .. so you pretty safe .. to get caught speeding with Waze and radar you have to be really unlucky... but it's all possible ..

I use the Escort Max 360 also. I have it directly hardwired into my rear view mirror.

I've got the built in escort system with the laser defusers in front and in the rear. I've always used windshield detectors but the last escort I had was the max2 I think? It was incredibly large and bulky. They seem to keep getting bigger.

Yes i have a fully integrated radar and laser system. I'm running the Bel-Stir Plus (that you can't get anymore) and ALP as two separate systems. I recently saw ALP has a radar unit that is pretty decent. My personal issue is the Valentine can be detected by radar detector detectors. I live next to Virginia - so that was important to me. You can check out my thread here..

http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&highlight=alp

But while we're on this topic - i really really really wish there was a way for our car with its 4 cameras to be able to continuously record. Seems so strange to me that it's not a capability. Anyone who has any knowledge in this area - please chime in I'd like to understand better.

Can you elaborate?

Does it share the same power source that is supplying power to the mirror or does the mirror have a secondary power point that you connect to?

Where is the mirror connector? Do you need to remove any trim pieces to access it?

Is it plug and play or do you need to use a splice kit or soldering iron?

Thanks...

I wish I could help, but my brother-in-law actually did the install for me. He did his M6 first, so doing my car was easy for him. He tapped into the rear view mirror wiring harness.

I bought the power cord from mirrortap.com. I think this was the part number I bought: MTX-1010/1015/1020

same power source

Where is the mirror connector? Do you need to remove any trim pieces to access it?
once you remove the black plastic cover that is below the mirror and on the windshield, you will see the wiring harness

Is it plug and play or do you need to use a splice kit or soldering iron?
plug and play, no splicing or soldering required

Thanks...

it comes with color schematics in blend mount packaging, you don't have to undo any wiring . the ends are thin blades that slide in the backside of existing plug. make sure you zip tie close to where the connections are made so you don't knock them lose. no soldering.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I had the BM and MT wiring solutions in my Armada and I've ordered them for my X5. Was wondering how simple it would be to tap into the wiring, but now i am convinced it's a snap!

Speaking of a snap, how simple is it to remove the cowling that covers the wiring? Simple use of a plastic pry tool do the trick?

BTW, I got a 12.5% discount from BM when I ordered last night with this discount code link: http://blendmount.refr.cc/35Z7NLL
