Italians! Love them! Rumor has it Brembo was used back in 17th century too:

Couple of calipers available right now on ebay from top rated seller and free shipping of course with 30 day money back guarantee (more than enough to check calipers):
Right caliper: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Passenger-C....c100677.m4598
Left caliper: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Driver-Cali....c100677.m4598
They are also from 2012 X5M with 74k miles and it looks they come with everything needed like clips, pins and even pads lol. Sensor is also included with Left caliper I think (afaik it's 1 sensor per axle)

Anyone wants to join the little project and make it a "who will paint it best color" competition

Yeah metric is your friend! Even with American vehicles these days, metric is very common. I love when they have a bunch of both and I'm doing a larger project, wrenches are EVERYWHERE because it's such a blend of metric & standard.

Also, when doing brake lines, bleeding, etc. you'd be best suited to pick up some line wrenches (flare nut wrenches). Prevents a lot of problems with stripping & damage of soft metals like brake line nuts, etc. by achieving more contact points on the fasteners.

Like these: https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-2655-F...ine+wrench+set

FINALLY a thread about real mods! No steenkin' badges, exhaust flaps, etc.

Brakes are fairly simple at the end of the day. Big hunks of metal to squeeze more hunks of metal to create a ton of friction.

Those calipers cleaned up real nice. I'd almost consider keeping them as-is and throw white Brembo decals on them. Kudos DuSh!

Yes, same dimension and they will fit like a glove. One small note: there is a hole in the rotor for a small retaining screw that usually holds rotors to the hub (while mounting), so rear drilled F85 rotors have that hole at a different place, so you won't be able to retain them with that small screw during installation (or you can just drill a hole for that if you must have it). Which is no big deal, as rotors are held by lug bolts/nuts anyway. So it's mostly a convenience feature. And after calipers are installed - during next tire change rotors won't come off as calipers and pads will hold them in place anyway too. Not sure if I explained it properly or confused you

P.S. Also it turns out there are alternative F85 rotors we can use: EBC company makes GD series black zinc coated slotted and dimpled rotors - same exactly dimensions as oem F85 only a bit cheaper:

drilled and slotted
GD1813 Front
GD1814 Rear

or just slotted (not drilled)
USR1813 front
USR1814 rear

So for those who are really on a budget lol - EBC rotors can help save money further (I updated my first post with links to EBC rotors and posted info below too). They are same dimensions as oem F85 rotors (395mm front and 385mm rear). I already ordered oem rotors, so it's too late for me, but maybe someone will benefit from alternative cheaper way. At this point front Brembo calipers (used) and a new set of front EBC rotors = about $1k lol - that's almost like a Honda Civic brake job - no one should now avoid this project, no excuses left guys

It turns out there are alternative F85 rotors we can use: EBC company makes GD series black zinc coated slotted and dimpled rotors - same exactly dimensions as oem F85 only a bit cheaper:

drilled and slotted
GD1813 Fronts - $228 for both front rotors! http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/77A3068A3886088.aspx
GD1814 Rears - $209 for both rear rotors! https://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-..._106652_0_4024

or just slotted (not drilled)
USR1813 front (haven't googled price for those yet)
USR1814 rear
Also, all prices are listed at the moment I wrote this, they may change so please check everything yourselves

Had some time in between exams so decided to sand down (more like scuff down gently so that surface is porous and ready) and prime calipers.
Given that calipers have factory oem hard black paint - it was very easy to prep them. All you need to do is use 240 grit paper for few spots with scratches and use 400 grit for everything else. Took me 20 min to mask and 20 min to sand it down and wash it with break cleaner to eliminate all dust

First light coat of VHT high heat primer. Then wait 10 min and second medium coat - covered very well and I'm happy (not looking to win shows with this project lol)

On a side note: this is so satisfying to do it with your hands

Looking good already! I was thinking the red would be deeper/darker. Maybe it’s just the lighting.

you are right, it should become a bit more deep after clear coat, plus lighting sucks as well as my iphone is trying to make picture lighter - it's a fluorescent lighting. I'm happy, for me it's going to be first in my life bbk

I believe I have a set of four new/unused still wrapped Brembo decals. If you want them; they're yours.
Unless of course you're going for this:

wow did someone paint like that for real?

Thanks iconoclast, I have decals arriving in 2h (I'm tracking them impatiently), but if they will be low quality made in basement decals lol - I'll take your offer
